The Definitve List: Most Overrated Bands\Artists ever

LOL! no. I wouldn't honestly say I "hate" them anymore than listening to DR. Demento. They just have no place next to Beck, the Boredoms or Cornelius.

They sure as he11 ain't no FZ!

I guess you deserve your stabz like everyone else, right?

I would say that we have reached a barrier that cannot really be torn down. I would say that Aerosmith were quite prolific in their songwriting skills, ranging from songs like Dream On to Love In An Elevator, but in the end it's all a matter of opinion.... Hello, by the way! =D

yeah those were some of my first days here when my posts actually had some quality haha

a thread about annoying n00bs we've had in the past would be pretty cool...

My problem with his persona is that he genuinely thinks he's God's answer to hip-hop or something, and if you're going to be like that i think you should back that up with your music.
His formula is dull. What he does is take a famous sample like with Daft Punk and Curtis Mayfield that people will recognise and rap over it with the whole uplifiting lyrics spiel. Everyone knows the Move On Up tune so it sells. He's a clever businessmen but thats it.
I have to admit if i was a fan i'd probably enjoy the live shows, he seems to at least have some passion there but on record it's just not there.

If that's the case you were REALLY off base via The Velvet Underground reference. :yikes:

Friend, lets bring this full circle to a common ground of intelligent conversation. I took the time to defined clearly what I was referring to via the jargon I used. Maybe that's a misconception on my behalf. I will give you that much. But if all you can do as a music appreciator is be short, sarcastic and withdrawn, how could I possibly see the matter through your ears so to speak?

I have been searching and searching for an enthusiastic and INTELLIGENT music appreciation community. You wanna know what the two biggest draw backs that have hindered that process so far are?

My Thoughts.
I don't know whether The Doors, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones & Eminem could be considered overrated or not.(although i do kinda agree a bit with The Rolling Stones & Eminem)
The rest, I just haven't listened to enough to pass a comment.

I'm not massively sure if they count as skits, half of them seem to be random conversations.
I wish the Wu solo albums would cut down on the skits too.

Eminem has made an absolutely brilliant slice of music in 'Lose Yourself' which lyrically and musically is a perfect example of how damn good the genre can be and also be a pointer as to how and why the genre took formation. Unfortunately 99% of his output was infantile commercial pap.

UHM, I went through ALL this meticulously. I took about 45 minutes of my time to do so and then you followed up with insults directed at me. It seems as though it's perfectly OK for everyone here to be condescending and irritating to me, but when I poke back, I get a warning. However it seems perfectly justified for the posters here to jab away to their heart's content. Incidentally why are you leaving off your basic initial response about what I posted as being meaningless?

I am NOT writing this out again. If you cannot accept the fact that I HAVE carefully explained this in as basic a stance that I possible could, I can do no better. Did you even read what I wrote? All the questions you asked above are addressed specifically. How about someone helping me out here? Go back and look and tell me I did not answer all these questions and explain myself as best as I could. They are really not pertinent questions anyway because they are based on a gross misunderstanding of what I initially wrote. I have explained all of this already.

It's pretty much spot on like JayJamJah told it. I'm not in his generation, but my father is, and from what he tells me he spent half his life trying to convince people that the Eagles weren't that good.

I honestly can't wait for the Dave Matthews Band review. He is the single most overrated artist in my generation.

i enjoy coldplay, and im pretty sure the stones and the doors are very good also.. sure they cant be compared to the beatles or zep, but they are still great... plus post-beatle Lennon, a few songs were good, but meh, i loathe Ono

Hehe good thread! Of course i don't agree with all of them but never mind. I want to see your statement on Mariah Carey. I don't see why she's nuraber 1, i think it's an american thing, i don't think anyone really cares about her over here.

Dunno if you're joking or not, but why not argue your case?
Kanye West to me is a brilliant person to be there, style over substance, i for one am not going to be won over by his lazy sampling and massive claims.

point taken...good arguement...didn't change my opinion though

i made it to here and decidedi didn't give a ****...Cobain an idiot? pssh:crazy:

exactly!

11. Kanye West

Most Overrated Album:
Most Overrated song:

I am going to break the form here because this topic is worn-out.

Kanye West speaks for himself

He has called himself "my favorite rapper"

He sucks, the music is catchy because it's a corabination of a bunch of songs you already knew. Shortly after the first few listens people of intelligence tire of it.

Search the site and you'll find 100 arguments and video evidence for why he belongs at least this high on any over rated list.
