The Definitve List: Most Overrated Bands\Artists ever

Problem is, coming from you that doesn't really mean all that much, seeming as you posted elsewhere that the "worst artists of all time" are all artists aside from Radiohead...so yeah, I think we see where you're coming from...

Radiohead isn't art pop. Not even close. (VU probably best approximates what good art pop should sound like). And if you want to hear pseudo-intellectual bullshit, download Tool's discography. Maynard doesn't even know what the fuck he's singing about. Certainly a must for your twonk frienRAB.

Who would bump to make room for those guys? and how high would you rank them?

Cool Story I am not surprised, keep the great feedback coming all!

16. The Doors

Most Overrated Album: Strange Days
Most Overrated song: Break on Through

So it's not like the Doors suck or anything. In fact their self-titled debut album is okay, LA Woman is a fascinating album, and there are some good singles mixed in their discography. Here's the thing. Jim Morrison was a decent lyricist and a pretty average song writer. A lot of their psychedelic and artsy stuff is just crap. "The End" is pure rubbish, Crystal ship makes me want to walk the plank, and every time I see that "American Poet" poster I just wonder what Whitman, Cummings, Thoreau and especially T.S. Elliot would think.

Here's an example of Morrison's "Poetry"

Whoa, yeah!
C'mon, yeah
Yeah, c'mon, yeah
Yeah, c'mon
Oh, yeah, ma
Yeah, I'm a back door man
I'm a back door man
The men don't know
But the little girl understand
Hey, all you people that tryin' to sleep
I'm out to make it with my midnight dream, yeah
'Cause I'm a back door man
The men don't know
But the little girls understand
All right, yeah
You men eat your dinner
Eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken
Than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah
I'm a back door man, wha
The men don't know
But the little girls understand
Well, I'm a back door man
I'm a back door man
Whoa, baby, I'm a back door man
The men don't know
But the little girls understand

That's really my mine gripe with them, they should be remerabered as one of the better popular acts of musics greatest age but not as the quintessential psychedelic rock band of the era. The fact that Morrison was often too high to perform should hinder their reputation not enhance it, but alas this is why they are the 16th most overrated band ever. This Doors fan's is the end and their is no incestuous rape in sight.

9. Whaaaat... maybe at one point, but you CANNOT call them overrated anymore. Talk about the bandwagon hate ship that you were touting with JJJ's original list.

5. I'd like to see this argument simply because I'm on the fence with their pedestal status.

1. I'd like to see this argument simply because I've never seen it before. Which is new.

Now you're just being dificult on purpose.

And whats wrong with that? I've always thought of The Beach Boys as being more of a collective than a band. Who cares if Carl is not a great guitarist or if Dennis is not a great drummer? Has anyone ever called them such? I don't recall anyone ever raving about Carl as a guitarist or Dennis as a drummer. But they did their job and it's not like the ever f*cked anything up on record. The praise has always been directed at Brian Wilson and deservedly so. He's the writer and producer. And thats always been what the Beach Boys were about, the melody and vocal harmonies and the production.

For one, Wilson is a better songwriter than Barrett (sue me, it's true) and no I'm not gonna use his insanity as proof of his genius. His music is a better example.

Smile was a great piece of work btw.

The only reason I broke things up was to point you in the direction of what I wanted you to clarify more clearly. When I was referring to the context I DID mean the whole thing , not just that one sentence.

Any contradictions that I may have made are due to a lack of understanding of your original post. I'm not trying to argue with you.

You seem to take great delight in trying to second guess my motives when all my original post to you was asking you to expand and to explain your reasoning. I wasn't trying to catch you out I was just trying to see if I was heading in the right direction.

To be honest you seem more hell bent on critiquing my own posts rather than answer any questions I put to you. I'm beginning to wonder if it's really worth asking you anything anymore.

I have to say that the more this goes on the more I start thinking that wolverinewolfweiselpigeon had a point when she said...

Seconded! I'm not going to offer criticisms about Bonnaroo (seeing as how I wasn't there), but I will say this: Kanye West is possibly the most deservest to be on this list. I admire him for taking hip-hop past "I'm the best and I'm gonna talk about it for forty minutes" but more people need to understand that he is by no means a good rapper. Good beats and fantastic production don't guarantee quality of music, and it is unfortunate that he is esteemed as the best modern rapper when Lupe and Lil Wayne work so hard.

How dare you Crowe, how dare you.

And to think I gave you props on Bi-Level; which i only kept because the bird on the cover reminded me o the bird from the Guinness beer commercial. I gave away the other four cRAB in the promo pack to some kiRAB skateboarding in the parking lot outside my sons restaurant.

Never even heard of him. He's overrated? Quick wikipedia...

Oh, so he's like some guitarist that's never actually produced real music. Makes sense...
