The Day After Tomorrow (merged)

As in the genre of this film, was watching a arthquake film the over night on TV. Made me think that a Earthquake with the above kind of budget would look good on film, of course would have to be on a scale that if affects more than just a city, but you can always have a huge tidal wave caused by the Earthquake. Theres never enough end of the world films, like there was in the 50's

This film was the worst I have seen in a long time. If you took away the effects, you were left with a wooden cast and characters you couldn't care less about. You knew from the outset that his father would find him, as they were Americans and they are always succesful....

I am pleased the lead boy always managed to shave every day...that sort of thing is SO important when the end of the world is nigh.

It amazes me that filmakers seem happy to destroy New York over and over again. Most of the posters show Manhattan either being hit by tidal waves or being covered in snow.

After 9/11 you would expect them to be a little careful when it comes to disasters in New York - hasn't that city suffered enough?

Talking of the movie Armageddon, I noticed the last time channel 5 showed it they cut the scene of the WTC being hit (as they should do) but if you have the DVD of it then take a look at the "aftermath" scene - the WTC is hit in pretty much the exact same places as were on 9/11 - the scene looks like news coverage from that fateful day.....

You sound like the type of person this movie is aimed at. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I didn't think it was TERRIBLE, just a missed opportunity to do something BETTER.

I enjoyed it a lot. plot made a lot of sense as it is something that will actually happen at sometime in the future. great effects. but Man Utd playing Celtic I think not. Celtic wear green and white not blue!! that has to be the stupidest thing in the movie for me.

I think its out half way thru may. I read the release date afew days ago but now I have completely forgotten. Im really looking forward to seeing it. The previews are really good.

Wow, you've an expensive cinema! :)

Our local Warner Village Cinema wins hanRAB down every time. The seats are comfy, the sound system is excellent. Certainly better than the local flee-bitten Odeon...

I'm really looking forward to this film, funny how all these 'end of the world' films are always from the American angle tho

Yeah, it does look good..I like the way it's set after the whole end of the world thing has happened, should be interesting..so long as it doesn't have the same grotesque feel as Independence day..which it shouldn't do as it's only made by one of the grusome twosome that made that movie.

An American here, who could not pass up the opportunity to post to this comment about Americans.

First, the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" was very entertaining. That is what a movie should be about. Period. If you went into this movie with the idea that the plot should be this and the characters should be that..........blah blah blah. A movie should be about being entertaining and it was. If you wanted character development and and storyline then rent Citizen Cane and stay away from Big Budget Summer Movies.

Second, Americans think the universe revolves around them? Really?? (I hope you detected my sarcasm there). America unconciously thinks it is like the High School Quarter Back who gets passing grades for doing nothing, gets the homecoming queen without trying and everyone thinks he is "all that". Nationalism is religion in America. We think we have never been beaten in a war. We think we have more "stuff" than anyone else. We think nobody can push us around but we can push around anyone (conveniently forgetting China). We think that our way is "the" way. Plain and simple we are full of ourselves. We think that if the chips are down and we Americans were to all pull together we cannot be defeated in any way or form. However, this is a majority view not shared by all. America is not monolithic. We not only are a country of great land mass but almost all of it is pleasantly inhabitable except Alaska. I live in California near San Francisco. Many more people don;t have that view here than say many southern states (that's called the bible belt). That is George Bush country there. You talk about America as arrogant and wrong and you better have a bullet proof vest (ok, exagerating that a bit). California, as well as me, are not Bush supporters. (FYI, most people in America have not walked down Manhattan). The reason I'm telling you this is the reason why you will see America as the central focus in movies. If you don't prominently involve America in the movie then you alienate the biggest market for movies. Typically, the American box office take is closely equal to the rest of the entire world's box office take. You make a movie, you want to make money, you better make Americans want to see it. The nationalism here means make it more about Americans or run the risk of making less money. Add to that the movies are made by Americans, New York City is the most recognizable city outside of showing distinct landmarks (Eiffle Tower - pardon my spelling - after all I am just an American :-) ). So your hope of it not revolving around America might as well be an argument about why the sky is blue. I just don't see this changing in our lifetime.

Sorry to invade your board but couldn't resist answering this.

Lo0ve to know how the yanks took to the United match, or was it changed to Baseball, just very surprised to see it as im sure this is still an unkown sport in america
