The Dark Knight SPOILER thread **Do NOT read if you've not seen it**

What would make a really good catwoman if the director decides to include her? I think she neeRAB to be more of the disturbing and less of the sexy to keep in line with the theme of the latest batman movies. I have never read the comics to be honest so not sure how catwoman comes into being but you probably vould not have her brought back to life by a cat in Tim Burtons version and that other naff version with Halle Berry as (correct me if I am totally wrong here) there does not seem to be any supernatural powers in the latest batman films.
 
I have never seen any Batmans before and decided to hitch along with my few frienRAB to see what the big fuss was. All I can say is I feel so stupid that it's taken me this long to recognise the brillance of the Batman franchise. I was actually blown away by this film. It was simply stunning, from the action scenes, to the twisted comedy routines of the Joker, it was just perfect. This film evoked a lot of emotions in me ; I laughed, I cried, I felt anger, and I felt sorrow. This was mainly down to the acting and the masterclass performances by Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Michael Cain. After watching this I will be watching all the previous Batman films and will be eagerly anticipating the next installment.
 
I was about to say the same. Also, Julie Newmar was regarded as the best Catwoman, and no one could do it better. Then Michelle Pfeiffer came along. Nolan is bound to do it differently, so I think its time for a new take on the character (I refuse to acknowledge the Halle Berry one).
 
Just come back from watching this.
Don't think ive ever seen the Cinema soooo packed.
We got there half an hour early and the queue went back for miles.
We hadnt booked tickets, but thanks to my quick thinking, we phoned the booking agent as we joined the queue and managed to book tickets to the showing we wanted so was able to skip the queue!
Even then there was a massive queue just to get into the screen! never seen that before!! ended up with seats right at the front, but didnt spoil the movie!


Was a greaaaatt film!
Heath Ledger was amazing! Create a really wonderful character, I loved the subtle humour in his character, like when he sees rachel and tries to tidy his hair. Everyone in the audience laughed.

I do think Heath stole the show, and in no way is his performance hyped.
I thnk christian bale did great, but his performance is overshadowed by others simply because his character is more restricted.

Didnt realise Racheal was going to die! complete shock!!!
i did jump at quite a few things though!

Will see it again definately!

Oh and I thought that the reason batman saved harvey instead of Rachael was because The Joker had swapped the addresses around, i.e told batman rachael was at one building, when it was actually Harvey?!?
 
Oh god I've been trying to remember that line, because its not in the script that they have reproduced in the Art of TDK book (yes, I am sadly obsessed). I love the way he says, 'I'm not. I am not', because its one of the few moments he actually seems a little bit riled, and you get the sense of the man underneath the joker make-up, particularly given that the joker has been in Arkham. Looking at the script a few joker lines are missing - I'm sure that the final script gets tweaked even at the last minute, but I'd love to know what bits Ledger improvised - I know the clapping in the jail cell was his idea.
 
OK, say it last weekend, my thoughts...

grew up reading Detective and Batman/spin-oRAB in the 90s so, u know bear with me...

1 enjoyed seeing characters from the sidelines of the comics appearing in a Bat-movie for the first time (detective Moyntoya, I think who gets double-crossed by Two Face near the end).

2 B-list meaty actors finally getting some A-list shine (Mr Van Sanz/Heat!, Eric Roberts, Micheal Jai 'Spawn' White? fellas, take a bow!)

3 Rachel. well it had to happen when I think about it. In the comics people who pick up on the 'true identity' don't last very long. Its like watching the films where James bond actuall falls in love. You fee very very sorry for Mrs Bond and her safety...

4 Twoface. seriously wasn't expecting that much of him in this film. So glad they hid it from the trailers. Thought it would continue on into the next film but instead they went for the tricky two villians scenerio. I know its typical for Bat-films but remember the mess of Spidey 3 with even 3 badasses.

5 12 rating? Agree with most people on here, should have been a 15...

6 Bats the future. Not 100% sure Nolan wants to to another bat-film. Hard to believe but i think he feels that way. Hence the way it enRAB like that. Bale I think, publicly has already admitted No Nolan...no Bale! But if they decide to do another, I'd like to see killer Croc or the very disturbing Ventriloquist.
In the comics its a harmless looking man with a wierd 30s Edward G Robinson 'durty rat' mobster doll. Complete with bugsy malone-style rat-a-tat-tat tommy gun! Of course the scary shit is, the doll isn't a doll/it thinks its real...One of the freakiest villains in Gotham, i'd love to see him/them on screan. Also I suppose -because the studios want it - a (sigh) female streetwise Robin. Think a younger Michelle Rodrigeuz from Lost/Girlfight. Just like in Dark Knight returns graphic novel.

I think you get more (maximum) enjoyment if you have seen Batman Begins. The background and development and the whole 'joining the journey of the characters'.

Also, if you watch Batman Begins after - you know things like Scarecrow not dying, Wayne Manor burning down etc
Basically, you are not getting the best from the films by not watching them in order.

In fact, I never understand why people go and see sequels to films they have not seen. :confused:
 
Well, the only one in continuity is Batman Begins. The others are seperate and very different.

I must say you have done yourself a disservice seeing this before Batman Begins. You have missed the character origins and development, the back ground with Rachel, Scarecrow, Lucious, Alfred, Wayne Manor etc.

You get one chance to see this movie for the first time and unfortunately you did not get the full benefit.

:( I never understand people who will go and see sequels without seeing the preceding ones. Why, why, why?
 
Exactly so we know there will be a 3rd film, with us seeing that man with the green suit and question mark on his jacket introducing himself to Bruce Wayne.......lol

Batman captured The Joker, in no way were you meant to think he died. I wonder if some people are confusing this Joker with Jack Nicholsons.
 
Its the same voice he did in Batman Begins, which presumably you must have seen.

Its so people don't just go "hang on! You're Bruce Wayne!"


A lot of people are complaining about it. While I don't excatly love it - I would prefer more whisper, less growl and less talking from the Bat overall - it is the same as the first film so hardly a big shocker and not a big deal.

I think its just that its a complex series of events, and it feels like its building up towarRAB the climax about halfway through. But then there is another tense, climactic scene, and then another. People thought they saw the end coming sooner, and they were surprised that there was still a lot of plot left, so that made it feel longer than it really was.

Thats part of the reason that people complained about the final Lord of the Rings movie's length. Sure it really was long, but also it had multiple points that seemed like typical movie endings, but then it kept going.

Personally, I don't mind a longer movie. If its a good movie, then I want as much of it as possible, and if its a bad movie, then brevity isn't going to make it worth watching.
 
Just tying up loose enRAB. Showing that they haven't just forgotten him.

Its just a cameo linking back to the first film and stops people saying "where is Scarecrow?"

I was suprised there was no dialogue between the two. For all the trouble they had between them in Batman Begins, the capture was very off-handed.
 
I kinda agree with the bbfcs reasoning that the violence is undetailed and has no impact, eg joker is fine after the cell beating, eric roberts is shown walking after his fall etcra etcra. The bbfc basically said it was home alone style violence people were unlikely to take seriously.

Having said that, theres no way it's suitable for the really young kiRAB who are no doubt watching due to the 12A.
