The Dark Knight SPOILER thread **Do NOT read if you've not seen it**

The Whole cinema burst out laughin @ the scene where the Joker says something like " i bet i can make this pencil disappear without touching it"

And the scene where he dresses up as the nurse made me laugh!

Film of the Year!

Have to say the previous Batman film series is difficult to watch now what I've seen in the Chris Nolan version. I used to love them, but now find I only enjoy Batman Returns, though I skip to watch only the Catwoman scenes. I tried to watch Batman, but really couldn't appreciate Jack Nicholson as the Joker now I've seen Heath Ledger's version.

Just seen this at the cinema (better late than never :-) and I was very impressed indeed. Sterling performances from all involved - Bale, Ledger, Eckhart, Caine, Freeman, Oldman - and a very dark story and very few punches pulled (quite surprised it got away with a 12A rating.)

The only negative thing I have to say about it - and it's a minor niggle really - was Christian Bale's gravelly movie trailer voiceover voice when in his Batman guise. Felt a bit forced (although I appreciate he has to disguise his voice so he won't be recognised.)

Saw this tonight, but at the iMax. Some of those aerial shots and him jumping off the buildings were insane. I slight fear of heights so it was difficult to watch without getting panicky.

All in all, great movie. Wonderful cast, amazing acting by Ledger. I will definitely be seeing it again.

I agree that Heath Ledger stole the show but i also thought that the rest of the cast were excellent as well.
I have to disagree with your point about Batman. Yes, the character did have less to do this time around but to suggest that all he did was save Gordon's son and half save Harvey Dent is wide of the mark. Don't forget he captured the joker and saved all those hostages and also brought Lau back from Hong Kong which allowed Dent to put away a lot of the mob.
At the end of the movie he also took responsibility for Dent's killings to uphold his good name.

2 points and a question...

I really think a 12a cert was not the right choice for this film. Unlike earlier batman franchise, where the villains were cartoon characters, here they were real people just horribly flawed, more psychologically than physically. Althought you never saw Joker cut anyone's face, the repeated threat to do so was quite frightening (and I'm no child).
There might have been no blood, but Batman's repeated punching of Joker in the face was quite brutal.

Secondly, it felt waaaaay too long. Kept thinking, that's the big climax, so now we'll have 5 minutes wrapping up. But no, off it would go for another 20 minutes...
Felt there were two possible films rolled into one.

Question: I thought Batman said he was going to save rachael, but he went to Harvey. Why, when he loved rachael? Maybe this was made clear at very end but could barely hear closing dialogue over booming music.

I think that was done, but more subtly this time. Firstly, with the way Batman will be villainized even more by the public by taking responsibility for Harvey's crimes and
David Goyer has said he really wants to develop Two Face in the third film, so the ending would kind of set that up as Harvey is thought to be dead by the public, but would be revealed to be Two Face.

"Now theres a Batman."

"I'd like to drive..."

When Gordon held the gun to Joker's head in the street, I loved that scene simply because I thought Gordon had died earlier! Plus, when Joker says immediately afterwarRAB, "Can you just give me a minute?" or similar :D

"LOOK AT ME!" I crapped myself :o

Just got back from seeing it at a preview, definitely one of the best films i have ever seen and i had very high expectations. I thought Harvey's descent into the 'real' Twoface was brilliant you could just see the way his psyche was going and that everything around him was affecting him. The entire film was full of such nuances in the acting and so much emotional depth.

Ledgers performance was absolutely fantastic. He brought so much to the character from all of the previous incarnations both in comics and films, yet managed to wrap more complete feel around it, whilst all the time making it his own.

Just like RocaBoi our entire cinema burst out laughing at the Pencil scene and there was actual applause from the audience at the end.

But also have to agree with the other comment above, that the BBFC will get wrapped for it being a 12A. During my viewing there was a girl sat not far from me, no older than 7 with her mum and obviously older brother and as soon as the two face reveal occurred she was hiding behind her toy and i glimpsed her mum taking her out as he got more prominent. But i suppose that is irresponsible parenting for you.

I really want to go see it again, but can't yet :(

Let the sequel speculation begin!

I found the villains so cartoony if that makes sense. All the dance routines and circus acts and stupid costumes. Probably what they were aiming for at the time, but after seeing Batman Begins and TDK it makes them look silly!

Yeah thought it was obvious although before the film came out there were reports that the Joker was smuggled out of the hospital in a body bag.

Seen it last night, and its absolutley fan-bloody-tastic!! Im going to see it again.

One thing that though, I like these kinda films to set up the next one, like Batman Begins, with Joker card at the very end. I was hoping for something like...Fox hires a girl called Selina has his PA, even if we just see her name on a Resume or CV or even Harleen Quinn treating the joker at Arkum...just something to keep me interested. Believe me, i cant wait for the next one....does anyone else feel the same? Did the end...just need that something?

I am just back from watching The Dark Knight and all I can say is it was WAYYYY better than I expected!

All the talk about Heath Ledger deserving the Oscar for his rule, had me thinking it was only because of the tragic circumstances, but I was soooo wrong! Heath Ledger was absolutely mind blowing in the role of The Joker and he would truly deserve this honour!

If you are in 2 minRAB about seeing this movie you must go an see it! It is by far the best blockbuster this year, possibly last 2 years!

But chris nolan said he hadnt even considered a 3rd movie.

but he said the same at the end of batman begins.. `And look what we got his time. :D

I think you were the only person didn't know about that, but even everybody knew that Gary Oldman's sister is Laila Morse of 'EastEnders.' Her real name is actually Maureen Oldman, but the name 'Laila Morse' is a pseudonym originally suggested by her brother, Gary Oldman, which is an anagram of 'mia sorella' - the Italian for 'my sister'.

Went to see 'The Dark Knight' today at VUE with my two sister's, even though it was Orange Wednesday. We went to the 4:30pm showing and I loved it. When it was finished I saw a huge queue inside and outside the VUE cinema and I think I knew straight away that were waiting to see 'The Dark Knight'. :p

I went to see the dark knight yesterday and in my opinion it is a perfect film. Heath ledger absolutely dominates the film even when he is not on screen and it is an oscar nomination worthy performance. Christian Bale is a fantastic Batman and I was really impressed with the guy who played Harvey Dent ( scared me a lot when he revealed his burnt face in the hosptital). Also the supporting actors are all brilliant.

Amazing film just don't spoil it by making another that has catwoman in it really don't like that character!

You are correct and thats what happened.
The Joker knew what he was doing and knew there was some sort of connection between Batman and Rachel because of what happened at the party.(Im pretty sure Joker did mention it when he and Batman were in the police station which was when Batman put the chair against the door)
So Joker told Batman where Harvey and Rachel were, but lied about who was at each location.
He knew that Batman would get there in time to save Harvey and at the same time punishing both Batman and Harvey with the death of Rachel and pushing Harvey over the edge.
