The Dark Knight SPOILER thread **Do NOT read if you've not seen it**

Ideally, the next movie they'll have a slightly lesser known villain. One that won't overshadow the main character.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved The Dark Knight, but for me it was a Joker movie - not a Batman one. Arguably even Harvey/Two Face got more attention and a better story arc.

So the third movie I'd love to see the focus back on Bruce/Batman, and a strong story arc for him.

Was there a line in the film that confirms this as I came out convinced I heard Gordon and Batman talk about how they decided to save Harvey for reasons that he was important to the future of Gotham?

Also on the topic of the certificate I think it depenRAB so much on the child - I took my 7 year old son because he loves Batman but also because I know he has the maturity to understand what he is watching and the concept of good, evil, reality and fiction, and to be honest there are alot of 15 year olRAB I would be far less comfortabe seeing this - the knife scene after the Joker arrives in the body bag was definitely pushing the certificate and I can see some kiRAB getting cheap kicks from it and will look to recreate (but for that I blame the kiRAB and parents and not the film)

My son on the other hand hasnt raided the knife drawer in the kitchen or had sleepless nights - instead he cant stop talking about the the Pod exiting the Tumbler, the Two Face face reveal and the two big set pieces.

For him this was his 'Jaws' of his era that I hope he will always remember seeing for the first time, and I am glad I was with him to experience such an amazing film.

I didn't find the plot confusing but in my opinion the movie should have ended with the people on the boats choosing not to kill each other, proving the Joker wrong. That seemed a natural end for me.

The stuff after with Two Face belonged in a third movie and not what we got at the end.

That said, great movie I just wish directors would realise less is more these days.

i never do though - i wanted to see this largely because of heath ledger, and also because I thought the first one was pretty good.

the hype was secondary, but when you read that it's made X hundreRAB of millions and got to number one in the IMDB all-time list already, you tend to think you might be getting something special ..

I agree with this. The next film is going to focus on Batman escaping the police and trying to get rid of the villian tag he now has after 'murdering' Harvey. Then there will be a few unknown new villians who are also trying to take over Gotham etc.

They were talking about not telling anyone that Harvey had gone bad and tried to kill Gordon and son as he was the Hero what Gotham needed.

Personally I think the interviewer
is a little too conclusive about Two Face. To me it was clear the dialogue was intentionally misleading. Also, Harvey's memorial could easily have been a stunt as they want the public to think he is dead to preserve his White Knight image. It seemed more obvious to me that he is still alive, not dead.

A lot of people say TDK was focussed too much on the villains. For me this is a natural formula of a sequel. BB was Bruce Wayne's and Batman's story. The Joker is so iconic they could never have made a film without a great focus on him. I think the development of Batman worked well in this film next to the Joker. The only weak point in TDK for me is how quickly Bruce seems to get over Rachel's death. You would think it would play a big part in his actions as Batman from there on, but it doesn't seem to be his driving force.

However, I agree with other posters that a 3rd film should focus more on Batman and Bruce Wayne, with a perhaps a less known villain. I still think Selina Kyle/Catwoman could work well to develop the Bruce/Batman story. I'd even love it if Nolan just introduced the character of Selina Kyle, leaving her at the end of the film on the brink of becoming Catwoman.

Don't cry. :D

Anyway, you might want to know, I might want to know, but it would have been a bit off if he had confirmed whether Harvey was dead or not. Of course he was never going to confirm anything.

Yes, thats what I was thinking. As soon as Batman arrived and Harvey was screaming "why didn't you go for Rachel?" I realised that The Joker had switched the location info.

Finally saw this film, and WOW!! It was amazing. Some people have complained about the length, and although I understand where they're coming from as there seemed to be a couple of points before the actual conclusion where it could have ended well, I didn't care and was actually glad it didn't stop at an earlier point, and could have easily continued even longer than it did.
Also, I agree with a poster who said a few posts up that naturally a superheror sequel is more likely to focus on the villain as the hero already has established motives, character arc ect. As with the Spiderman trilogy, the sequels focused more on the villains and their motives, with the hero's story as a more subtle subplot.
As much as i Loved the Spiderman films, particular the third one, this one film is probably better than all of these put together, with the dark suspense filled plot as well as great action scenes, and covers a great story in a single film that other similar films cover over the course of a trilogy.
And Ledger, WOW i really think that all of the praise his performance has recieved is well-earned and accurate, and feel his performance would have been just as hyped if he was still alive, as he added that extra something to this film that made it so close to perfect.

Shivers! That was a brilliant end to the film.

And rightly so.

I was a fan way back in the Burton years but this new franchise (I hate calling it that) is brilliant. Gotham as a real, modern day City (and not the weird version with bizarre architecture that Burton had). I do hope this lasts for years to come, I hope Nolan Directs for years to come and I hope Bale continues as Batman for years to come. My only regret is that Ledger will never return as The Joker. His performance was truly mesmorising and deserves all the hype, publicity and praise it's already been given.

If Harvey is still alive, pretending Batman did his crimes would be silly as Harvey could claim credit at any time.

(I don't think we need spoiler tags given the thread title.)

Saw the film today and WOW!

I had read so much about Heath Ledgers performance and never thought that the reviews could be right, all claiming it to be Oscar worthy I was wary it was just embellishing on a decent performance due to the tragic circumstances, but wow, he was actually just amazing. He played the part so well, keep the characteristics that make the Joker the "Joker" but making him his own aswell, the make up was perfect, the laughing was spot on the suit was spot on the mannerisms I felt were really similar to the way Joker is portrayed in the comics/graphic novels. Such a shame that it will never be repeated, and whilst Joker is such a major part of the Batman Universe, I do think that he should be left off screen for a long time or until another "re-franchising" because anyone else would be a dissappointment.

Harvey Dent was also great, I wasn't expecting such a neat storyline for him, I thought it would have ended with him turning "Two Face" rather than having him Die, although I agree with posters above, I think it was left open for a return, as it was with Joker.

I can't wait to watch it again, Joker as the Nurse had me in stitches, it was ridiculous but somehow dressing as a Nurse with a big wig on managed to remain menacing lol.

Definite 10/10
