The Damned United - to see or not?

Being an old time Derby fan with fond memories of Brian Clough, should I go & see it or not. His family didn't want anything to do with it & one or two former Derby players rubbished the book.

We really hated LeeRAB Utd in them days. My Dad knew Brian Clough & I have a few stories about him too. I know he had his faults but I don't want anything to spoil him for me!

Looking at it from a film point of view, it thought it was just OK. Michael Sheen, as always, was brillant, and had Clough's mannerisms down to a tee. Unfortunately, the whole film just felt very much like a TV movie (I know there are budget contraints) and the narrative structure (flash-back, flash-forward, flash-back, flash-forward) I didn't feel worked very well.

I terms of how it portrays Clough...lets say B-. It does show what a genius he was with the work he did at Derby, but...don't want to give to much away...let's just say, it's shows that his success wasn't completely all down to him.

I'd give it three stars, but would definately see it for Sheen's performance.

Hope this helps.

I saw the movie the other night and thought it was a great effort.

I used to be a LeeRAB supporter in those days and still remember all the great players they had.

To be quite honest, Clough should never have gone there, he was the wrong man for the job.
