The Da Vinci Code

Yep, haven't read the book yet myself, but heard about a movie version, Tom Hanks in the lead role, and Audrey Tautou getting the female lead, that has got to be good, fabulous actress. Is she right for the role? anyone who has read the book.

The film is set for release on May 19, 2006 (US - no UK release date set so far) and will be directed by Ron Howard.

Actors announced so far are:

Tom Hanks - Robert Langdon
Audrey Tatou - Sophie Neveu
Jean Reno - Bezu Fache
Ian McKellen - Sir Leigh Teabing
Alfred Molina - Bishop Arigarosa
Jim Carrey - Silas (rumoured, not confirmed yet)

Finished this a month ago - really enjoyed it.

Robert Langdon = A younger Harrison Ford ( I think the character is similar to Dr. Indy Jones)

I always thought that someone like dolph lundgren (??) would be a good Silas.

If this Silas role is serious then I don't mind Jim Carrey, I like him in serious roles, can't stand comedic roles with him. But i'm sure Eccleson got the role though.

Hadn't heard the Jim Carrey rumour, the last I heard it was Christopher Ecclestone for Silas (and that I can see - can't see Jim Carrey as him for some reason).

I only finished the book last week so it is fresh in my mind, but the thought of Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon is so awful I have already set my mind against it. I think that Hanks is a great actor, but I don't think that he is right for this part at all.

Audrey Tautou is a fabulous choice for Sophie and Jean Reno as Fache, the moment I read the book I actually saw him in my head (might have had something to do with my watching Leon the night before). Tom Hanks just doesn't say Robert Langdon, and JC definitely doesn't say calculating albino.

Have to agree with you about both Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks. I had just finished reading the book when the first rumours about the film started doing the rounRAB, and by no stretch of the imagination can I see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon. Also, I think Christopher Ecclestone would be wonderful as Silas and would bring the right sense of creepiness and intensity to the role that Jim Carrey may not be able to carry off (although I do think he is good in straight roles as opposed to his Ace Ventura types).

silas is a big man, so that dolph lungdren choice ain't a bad one .....
tom hanks as brandon is a good choice IMO
always thought fache was an older guy, like lino ventura's character ..... brunel ..... in the medusa touch. but since it's basically a chase movie, reno would be another good choice!

and audrey tatou ..... magnifique :D

i'm sure when i read the book silas is described as an albino giant.?!? hmmm jim carey, christopher ecclestone? terrible casting if thats true. that could be the biggest movie mistake since greedo shooting first!! :D

tom hanks=not too sure. You're meant to fancy Langdon at least a little

Audrey=fab. perfect.

jean=perfecto.

ian=now you mention it - OF COURSE! BUT A baddie though. boooo.

Alfred-love this guy, ace.

jim- no way. though ecclestone would rock

Overall good, but I rekon it will be too star studded to be believable.

If this is successful to do you rekon they'll do angels and demons? I enjoyed it much more though i would expect a huge catholic outcry

they are rumours that it will actually be filmed in La Louvre; on a Tuesday (when its shut) and at night (as the majority of scenes there are at night)

Wonder when the actually filming starts there, cos i wouldnt mind a visit ;) :D
