Delpy: "Da Vinci Role Is Mine"

French actress Julie Delpy has set her sights on the role of cryptologist Sophie Neveu in the forthcoming movie adaptation of best-selling book The Da Vinci Code. The Before Sunset star is a huge fan of Dan Brown's novel and is desperate for director Ron Howard to cast her opposite Tom Hanks in the mystery thriller. An American Werewolf in Paris and The Passion of Ayn Rand star Delpy enthuses, "The character is French, in her thirties and has a shade of red in her hair. I can become a redhead."

Most of the people I know most excited about seeing this movie are Catholics. I love what Tom Hanks said:

I'll be watching it Saturday.

I really don't want Tom Hanks. That would ruin Langdon for him. Don't get me wrong, I love Mr. Hanks and I think he is a fascinating actor, however I just don't see him as Robert Langdon. I see Robert as somebody with a subtle unaware sexiness and intellect and I just... gah... I don't see Hanks.

What I do see? Many possibilities, though I keep thinking of Colin Firth. Perhaps even Christian Bale, though he is probably too young.

I can't wait to see this movie. :D

Every time Barbara Falk walks past a billboard for the movie "The Da Vinci Code," the elegant 50-year-old teacher who has been a celibate member of Opus Dei for 26 years wants to accost people to tell them "I'm normal."

I’ve already seen the movie (which I thought was great!) and I'm reading the book at the moment

And I’ve got to say the book sucks!

The only thing good about the book is the story and the information...the way its written is so amateurish...how many times can Brown repeat the same effen things over and over and over again...its painful and it moves so bloody slowly.....i mean Sophie and Langdon are supposed to be smart people yet it takes them ages to figure things out...

Thank god the movie is fast and cuts out all the repetition and pathetic lines from the book!

This book seems like its written for the lowest common denominator to understand...the movie is so superior... I commend the screenwriter for fixing the writing of the book!

I am going in w/ no expectations
If I do i know I will be let down and I liked the book so much I don't want to be let down.
even if I come out thinking the movie was just OK then I'll be fine.

I'm stupid but I've always pictured him as a Bruce Boxleitner in his 40s :D

An impossible casting as he's not even remotely famous enough to be cast as Langdon, but that's how I imagined him

The Da Vinci Code Starts Filming

News24.com reports that Columbia Pictures started filming The Da Vinci Code yesterday. The anticipated adaptation of the Dan Brown novel, directed by Ron Howard, stars Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany. The site says:

Filming began late on Wednesday at the Ritz hotel in central Paris, according to Le Parisien newspaper.

It was to continue all night on Thursday at the nearby famous Louvre, where the Mona Lisa is kept, for the novel's opening scene in which the museum's fatally wounded director leaves a cryptic message for Langdon.

Hanks, Howard and their team will also be taking the camera to Britain for several location shoots, although officials there have refused to make Westminster Abbey available to recreate an important scene because the book's premise was considered theologically unsound.

The studio is planning a May 19, 2006 release date for the thriller.

I saw this today and I enjoyed it. Not the best movie I have ever seen, but very interesting. Kept me entertained for a couple of hours.

Tom did ok. Not his best piece of work. The lady who played Sophie I liked. Ian was great as usual and I flove any and all things Paul Bettany.

The plot was interesting and there are certain things I was confused about. But I guessed some of the ending regarding The Teacher and Sophie before the actual reveals.

I purposefully did not read the book because 9 out of 10 the books are so much better. So I decided against reading it, till after the movie so it would not influence my opinion.

So now I am off to read the book.

Sasha - I loved the French Fatigue article of yours  what people just don't seem to understand is that The Da Vinci Code is a work of FICTION, and not everything in there is the absolute truth. Gah.

I like Tom Hanks well enough, but not for Robert Langdon. I just never thought of Tom as Robert Langdon. Colin Rirth seems a bit too stiff for me. Viggo Mortensen would be nice :)

As for Sophie, Julie Delpy is nice. I saw a quote saying maybe Audrey Tatau, what do you all think of her? Would she be better than Julie Delpy?

My feelings on this movie have changed a little in the past few days. I change somewhat changed my mind on seeing the movie. So I may see it next week. I heard that The DaVinci Code made like 29 million dollars on Friday. I bet it makes like at least 70 million dollars for the weekend.

That's a good point. The Vatican was strongly against The DaVinci Code so I'm wonder how the heck they would ever even get in Vatican City let alone the building. The building the can be recreated using other locations but I'm wondering how the exterior shots will be filmed, if infact they do go ahead with it.

I'm not really pleased with the choice of Tom Hanks. He's a great actor, of course, but I think he would be a bit of a distraction.

I read Da Vinci Code first, and then Angels and Demons. I was trying to put a face to the Robert Langdon I was picturing in my head and I realized I would really like Clive Owen for the role.

Age-wise, he's fine for the role. I can picture him being academic yet able to handle himself. He looks lovely with those glasses in that pic. Robert Langdon was a water polo player, so was athletic. He is known, but not so known that he'll be a distraction.

As for Sophie, I guess somewhere I missed the description of her having lighter hair. I pictured her with darker hair. I think
Franka Potente would be good. Or Sophie Marceau

I have someone in mind for Teabing, but I too can't place the actor's name. I'll figure it out one of these days.

I'm a Catholic. I don't think it's a disgrace on Jesus and Christians. It actually depends on what the viewers/readers will think after they watch/read it. If you have faith in yourself, go ahead read it. It won't take your faith and beliefs away. It's just pure 'what ifs' not 'this is the truth'
