Well, I hope the ending is better then. :) At least get Sophie involved when he "figures" it all out?

Paul Bettany (Wimbledon, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) will play the albino fanatic, Silas, in director Ron Howard's The Da Vinci Code.

Bettany joins Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen and Alfred Molina in the Columbia Pictures thriller. The adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller starts filming next month for a May 19 release date.

Akiva Goldsman wrote the film's script. Brian Grazer is producing with John Calley.

Bettany is currently shooting the Richard Loncraine-directed Firewall.

I'm totally obsessed with the subject matter...i cant stop thinking about it- I think i have a sickness

While I don't have a dream cast, the entire time I was reading the book, Sophie was Rachel Weiss. I don't know why, that's who I pictured her as so anyone else playing her in the movie would just seem wrong to me.

I didn't have any actors in mind for Robert as I was reading, his face was like a blur to me if you know what I mean.
I love Tom Hanks. I think he's an awesome actor, but not who I would picture playing Langdon that's for sure.
I actually don't know who I would cast for that role, or any of the others.

Though I did kind of picture Leigh as John Cleese. :look:

Somehow, I really can't imagine Tom Hanks playing the character of Robert Langdon. He's too...vague. I was thinking Hugh Jackman. If that's too young, even Harrison Ford or even Richard Gere (I'm stretching it aren't I?). As for Sophie, Monica Belluci would be perfect ;) I heart Julie Delpy but she doesn't seem right for the role.

it's like he knew he was gonna write a sequel  but I heard that the end is different in the movie (at least one thing I feared doesn't happen )

I felt the movie was really unbalanced at times; sometimes the audience would be spoon-fed the information just in case they hadn’t read the book, yet at other times they just breezed over subjects, like the producers were assuming we already knew what was going on. As someone who’s read the book, that was one thing that I really noticed.

I thought the acting was really good, and unlike most I didn’t have a problem with Tom Hanks. While he wasn’t how I pictured Langdon to look like and his hair distracted me, his acting was fine. As was everyone else’s, of course. Paul Bettany, in particular, was excellent.

They twisted the ending a bit, which I liked and didn’t like. I didn’t like the way they made Sophie’s grandfather not her grandfather. I don’t understand what the film gained from that illogical and pointless twist. I also didn’t like that they didn’t keep Sophie’s brother alive. I understand it’s more dramatic and conclusive to have Sophie be the last living person in Jesus’s bloodline, but I really liked that Sophie and her brother were reunited after all of those years. I DID like, however, how they kept the Sophie/Robert relationship as purely platonic. I hated that they kissed in the book, and I felt the kiss on the forehead at the end was sweet, but more than enough.

Overall, I thought the movie was okay. I know the critics are slamming it like no tomorrow and while it’s not perfect, I don’t see what all of the (bad) fuss was about.

Tom Hanks was miscast and so was Audrey Tautou (sp?). Ian Mckellan made the film and it was a little long. a few plot changes/develpments that they had in the movie were unnecessary and stupid. But, overall it was a good movie and entertaining

Angels and Demons centers around The Big Bang Theory. Where DaVinci Code dealt with Art and Religion, this one compares Science vs Religion and the secret society of the Illuminati in which Galeao was the founder. It's similar to TDC because Robert Langdon teams up with a woman to solve a crime. But this time there's a ticking time bomb that threatens to blow up the Vatican and there are dying priests that are left all over Rome with clues to where the bomb is. And of course like TDC there's a twist.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I might wait a few days to see it..go when there is a chance of less people crowding the theatre. But I can't wait. My mom is really excited to see it too..she just finished reading the book.

I have a hard time picturing Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon though. I dunno why, either. But Ian McKellen and Paul Bettany are perfect. Im really looking forward to seeing them. McKellen is certainly going to have a huge summer, with this AND XMen. sheesh.

Have they definately cast Tom Hanks then? Because I love him, but I just can't see him in this role.

I can't remeber who said it, but when someone mentioned Viggo Mortensen, it all just clicked in my brain - he would be so perfect for this role! He's the right age, not too old, and still sexy enough to be a convincing Indiana-Jones-type character, which is how I saw him when I read the book. If he wasn't too old now, I would be wanting Harrison Ford for it!

hmmm, funny, when i was reading this book, i couldn't think of anyone else except tom hanks. he's one of the actors who can be perfect for the role, and remember he can adjust his weight and looks for a movie if needed (think of castaway). and as someone mentioned earlier, robert langdon isn't supposed to be someone devilishly sexy or handsome.

and hanks, whether one tries to deny it or not, is a good actor, better than the average, if i must say so myself.

viggo would be good too or ford (but we do need to get a time machine so we could get a younger ford)

the amelie actress or kate beckinsale would be good for sophie, as of now, i can't think of anyone else so i can't suggest something yet.

jean reno is a perfect fache and the bad guy in kiss of the dragon (the frenchman in the patriot) would be ok for the role of collet, while there is an actor who would be perfect for the role of teabing, i just forgot his name (chubby scholarly looking guy who could look jovial and kind AND devilish and evil whenever he wants. agh, i just can't remember his name and what movie he starred in. all i remember is that he's chubby, scholarly looking and has short white curly hair. now ill be thinking about that the whole day.

but then again, we all have our opinions. :)

merry christmas to everyone!

Did the movie served it's justice to the book? (i.e. filling in clues, theories, history - so even readers/nonreaders won't get lost) :look:
