French site Film Deculte reports that Braveheart and The World is Not Enough star Sophie Marceau will play gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu in Columbia Pictures' The Da Vinci Code.

The adaptation of the Dan Brown bestseller stars Tom Hanks as famed symbologist Robert Langdon and Jean Reno as gruff detective Bezu Fache.

Marceau is said to have dropped out of the French adaptation of Stone Council for "Da Vinci Code" and Monica Bellucci apparently will take over her role in that film.

The Da Vinci Code will be directed by Ron Howard from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman. Brian Grazer and John Calley are producing. Production will begin this year in the United States and Europe for a May 19, 2006 worldwide release.

France will allow director Ron Howard to shoot scenes in the famed Louvre museum for the Columbia Pictures adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code, reports Reuters.

Asked about plans to shoot the movie, starring Tom Hanks as Professor Robert Langdon, in the Louvre in summer, a spokesman for the Culture Ministry said: "Yes, it is scheduled to go ahead. There is no problem."

A production team has already visited the Louvre to select locations in its Grand Gallery, where the opening of the novel is set.

Filming usually takes place at night and on Tuesdays, when the museum is closed to the public.

then it's another thing different than in the book :lol: Cause in the book there was at least SOME excitement, at least from Langdon:lol: and let's face it Leigh was crazy his last scene was just hilariouse for me :lol:
 
No the ending is the same from book to film. I really enjoyed it.

I finally saw it last night! And thankfully, I can say I really liked it. Tom Hanks didn't bother me as much as I thought he would and I thought they touched on everything they should have. I liked the use of special effects to make the transitions from either Robert's, Sophie's or Salis's memories and how they worked with telling the backstory.


There's one question I had about a point about the grandfather that I think they changed towards the end. I'm not sure because I'd like to check the book again to see if I'm correct but I'm wondering why they felt they needed that changed.
 
I have both read the book and saw the movie, so while I'm not a huge fan of either, I enjoyed both to a point.

I'd read the book first. All the symbology and how they decipher the clues is practically lost in the movie. In the book there is TONS of detail and helps you understand it more, the movie quickly zooms through it. So people could get lost with that.

Tom Hanks, much as I love him, does not do Robert Langdon justice. In the book Robert is astute, very aware, very in control and he has this demanding prescence. That's lacking in the movie, the real lead is Audrey Tatou who does a great job as Sophie. Ian McKellan is a stand-out too.

The movie itself is pretty good, if you're not invested into it at all, you watch it for the action sequences, the mystery. I know that most people who have no interest in religion at all are not keen to see it, but it's worth watching.

Overall, it's close to the book except for the ending and while it's not amazing, it's not pure garbage either. It won't win all those Academy Awards but it's not a terrible movie by any means. I'd give it a solid B.

No it's not just you Kasia. But I think they were confused more than anything, their emotions were there but they didn't have time to process everything because they were running all the time. Where as, in contrast, Leigh was almost an obsessive and borderline zealot. After all it is his passion and ultimately his orcastrated plan to begin with. So I guess that was done on purpose.

When we first see the young man at the Roselyn Church opening the door, his hair is the same colour as Sophie and I'm sure everyone who read the book immediately thought that was her brother. The look of recognition when he first sees her and as he watches her go down the hidden stairs it's very obvious. Then instead of using that, they twist it around to make him just a Priory member who alerts the others. Why cast someone that looks so much like the brother in the book if they were never intending to use that plot point. So bizzare.
 
Is that what it's about?? I read it was controversial but I wasn't sure what was controversial...I never even realized this was an 'idea' people had :lol:. Oh well that's why it's called fiction lol. I might have to read it to see what the buzz is all about.

I just recently finished reading the book, and I am SOOO excited about seeing the movie! The book was absolutely amazing!! I'm not sure what day I'm seeing it yet, but soon! :D
 
Did anyone read "Angels and Demons" (its story plays before "The da Vinci Code")?
I'm just wondering why someone's gonna shoot "The da Vinci Code" but not "Angels and Demons" (in Germany it is called "ILLUMINATI") ...

Did I miss anything?

[sp]I actually didn't remember that they kissed in the book. :lol: But I just remember PRAYING during the movie that they wouldn't kiss. I was so relieved when it was just a kiss on the forehead! I actually would have preferred it if they didn't kiss either in the book! Just a bit contrived, imo.

I also found the book ending more compelling. I liked the whole family tie thing. It was just more touching. But yeah, I think they changed it for the dramatic effect. [/sp]

BTW, I know I know you from somewhere. From the R/H thread over at the HP board, right? I've been MIA from FF for a long time so it's been awhile. ;)
