The Cleveland Show - "The Curious Case of Jr. Working at The Stool" - Talkback [2/21]

Whatever the reason, it's freaking pathetic that the voice actor didn't even last a full season. It makes the whole production look sloppy as hell.

Regardless, this was one of my favorite episodes.

I did too but the wierd thing about this new one she has the voice to at least mimic Roberta's attitude (I've heard her on other shows)but she's trying to be too cartoony with it. Nia Long just left because her movie contracts got in the way

Loved this episode so much. The bits where Junior plans his revenge against his father were just hilarious, along with the music that was playing in the background. Junior is turning out to be one of my favorite characters on the show.

Roberta sideplot was enjoyable as well, but the new VA didn't throw me off until I heard her 2nd line, after that it was noticeable for me. I hope she gets better later on.

Since FG was a repeat this week I watched this instead. I hated the first few episodes and abandoned the show, but I gave this episode a chance and liked it. So who knows, there's hope.

I still think Seth shouldn't have 3/4 of Animation Domination, though.

Episode was pretty good. Not better than last week's episode. The third act was great.

What do you mean?

*ahem*
This show isn't really Seth Macfarlane's show. It's actually Mike Henry's show.
All Seth did was present it to the FOX execs and they gave it the thumb's up.
Also, according to an interview with Macfarlane, he wasn't even going to voice Tim the Bear originally. He was persuaded by some guy whose name I can't remember.

Huh, I never really noticed Roberta's voice change.

Other than that, pretty good episode. The show is slowly but surely getting into the groove of things. Also is it just me or does anybody just love the various basketball references the show has, from Scottie Pippen to Dikembe Mutumbo. It's clever and unique, two things I like.

Ah, right.
I just wish the voice change wasn't so noticeable. >_>
I think she could have been re-casted better but I guess they needed a new VA quick.

Looks like we'll have to get used to this new voice actress for a while.

From the way you phrased it, it seems as if Mike Henry just decided one day "I want my own show", and had Seth MacFarlane use his political clout to get it greenlighted. That has never happened with a Simpsons writer.

From the interviews I think it was more like this behind the scenes:
-Mike Henry and that some other guy (I keep forgetting his name. I think it was Appel.) was talking one day and somehow it went into the way of "What if Cleveland had his own show." They both wound up thinking it could actually be a good idea.

-They went to Seth since Cleveland is/was his character, explained their idea, took things about Cleveland into consideration, Seth liked the idea and decided to give it a shot by presenting it to FOX execs.

-Boom! Greenlighted.

Seth could have easily turned it down.

Possibly because a Simpsons never really had an idea for a Simpson's spin-off or one did but it got turned down?

I'm not seeing a big deal here. Is there supposed to be a big deal?

Never mind the fact that the Simpsons, while it has an amazing supporting cast, doesn't have the right kind of people in said cast to stand on their own in a spinoff. I mean, out of Homer's friends can you really see a sense of depth and detail in their lives and personality that would compel a writer to say "Hey! What if we made a spinoff for him?" At least with Cleveland you can see that, he has enough dimensions on him, never mind baggage to make him able to stand on his own.

That's funny because I remember in the year and a half leading up to the premiere of the show most people, myself included, complained that no one had enough depth on Family Guy to warrant a spin-off, but especially Cleveland.

Yeah. I didn't notice the new voice either. But it's good to see the comments on that at the forums. Glad other people pick up on these things and keep the rest of us up to date. Lol.

When it comes to the Simpsons, there was an idea floating around for awhile for a live action Troy McClure movie. I think Phil Hartman died before it was any more than an idea though. And I think I read somewhere that they were thinking of a "Citizens of Springfield" show, featuring the lives of everyone. That turned into "22 Short Films About Springfield", instead of its own program.
