The classroom experiment.

This is Sid's (one of the students featured in The Classroom Experiment) comment on the show before it was screened! He obviously reflects on his experience because it was filmed earlier in the year. It is taken from the TES website.

My name is Sid. I was heavily involved in this program, as you will see when it airs. Obviously some of the strategies weren't as good as others, but some were amazing. For instance the no hand's up rule, not only has this been a real confidence booster in class, but also outside of class to! The only worrying thing about the strategy is how long will it take before the high achievers just give up, and can't be bothered? Dylan was only in our class for one term, and as you see in the program, the high achievers seem to give up after only one half term. I also think the student observing worked fantastically, When me and my friend gave feedback to Miss Obi, she took it on board and used the techniques we suggested! The Classroom Experiment aires on Monday 27th September and Tuesday 28th September at 7pm on BBC2
 
Thank you, very interesting. I know Sid from his primary school, where I work. And now my daughter goes to Hertswood. I will be watching with interest if any of these ideas are used!
 
I think it is very difficult to change pupils behaviour now a days, as most of them know about psychological methods and know they are being manipulated (even if it is for their own good).

I still believe they need a more 'wax on wax off' approach that is less obvious than the 'Sticks' or 'cups' method.
 
Sorry, I reckon if you are a kid in her class she would be a nightmare teacher. He voice would set you on edge. I realise it's because she's stressed though.

As other posters have said, it's great that she has taken on the feedback and the lessons have improved. That's the mark of a professional.

What happened with the lolly sticks? Missed that.
 
Yes it was clearer during the second ep. I thought it was filmed during this month, but no...as you say, it was the tail end of the last academic year.
 
You can tell his parents, (I am a teacher myself) that of all the students who were featured, he came across the best. He made very perceptive, intuitive, sensitive and informative comments throughout. Well done to Sid. They must have all been buzzing knowing they were going to be on the telly.
 
He was sweet wasn't he. The girl who he was doing the teacher feedback with so wanted to laugh at him didn't she when he was doing his piece to camera.
 
The school has set itself up a bit hasn't it. Many parents will want to see the strategies in place won't they, and I guess, rightly so.

The only thing that could have been done more diplomatically (because obviously the whole school would have been watching) was the feedback on how effective the strategies were. He said that a lot of progress had been made in Maths and English, yet there was no difference in the performance in Science...:o Whoops! Poor Science teacher!
 
Apparently one of the pupils had taken their name out of the cups. But they didn't say which pupil it was, not sure if they are saving it for next week.
 
Having taught for 20 years, i can identify the problem immediately - mixed ability teaching. No amount of cups, lolly sticks and early morning aerobics will address this fundamental failure of modern British education. Stupid academics like this one make me despair.
