The Christmas TV Thread 2010

Have ITV still got the rights to the Harry Potter films?

If so they are more likely to show it a couple of weeks before Christmas (more advertising revenue)

Good effort with your schedule only you, but it isn't something I would get excited about. Now how about this for Christmas day on ITV1:

3.00 The Queen
3.10 All Star Family Fortunes
3.55 Coronation Street (Part 1)
4.55 Coronation Street: The Christmas Files
5.45 ITV News
6.00 Emmerdale
7.00 Harry Hills Christmas TV Burp
7.30 Coronation Street (Part 2)
8.00 Britain's Got Talent Christmas Special
9.30 Agatha Christies Marple
11.30 ITV News
11.40 FILM: Pretty Woman

And for BBC1:

3.00 The Queen
3.10 FILM PREMIERE: Shrek the Third
4.30 Tonight's The Night at Christmas
5.20 BBC News
5.30 EastEnders (Part 1)
6.00 Doctor Who
7.00 Strictly Come Dancing at Christmas
8.00 EastEnders (Part 2)
8.30 FILM PREMIERE: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
10.20 The Royle Family
11.20 BBC News
11.30 FILM: War of the WorlRAB

Im sure the rights are still with ITV. I would expect Order of the Phoenix to air in the first two weeks of Decemeber. ITV usually dont bother much for Christmas after the X Factor finishes,

ITV could put up any shedule you want - it wouldn't make a difference. ITV themselves are more than aware of this and now make only vague effort at xmas - they are careful only to schedule Coronation St where it will be damanged least.

Watch the adverts ! - xmas adverts usually end at the very moment the shops shut on xmas eve. Advertisers are much less concerned with xmas day on ITV than they are the x factor final a week or so before. In recent years ITV have been very careful to schedule big premier films in November or October (latest star wars & harry potter films). The days of the BBC vs ITV bumper xmas schedules are well & truly over as it makes no commercial sense for a commercially led channel to spend big outside the time where most cash is spent (October & November & early December).

I think ITV's xmas schedules have improved over the last couple of years. 5 years ago (or so) they made virtually no effort at all but at least now they try to fill their schedule with festive films (although not new & shown many times before) and cheap 'compliation' type shows (greatest family xmas films etc). At least they're festive. On the days surrounding the main xmas days (e.g. Dec 21st - 23rd, 27th - 30th) ITV are much better the BBC's festive-less schedules.

I think it would still work without Quentin and Ash, if Quentin doesn't want to do it, and if Ash is too frail after landing in hospital and the subsequent infection. Gary and Tony could still be sharing a flat, with Gary getting weekend visits from his child/children.

Gary and Tony could both be persuing a new woman, without any luck :D

Yeah, I *think* that has been confirmed. The only question is when will it be on? ... The last few years it has been on Christmas Eve, so maybe that will be a good bet?

I don't think there will be one this year as everyday will have its normal EastEnders plus two christmas day and one new years day. EastEnders normally has 11 episodes spread over christmas period.

they do because in august they were celebrating getting all the james bond films for HD even quantom of solace

and also they were celebrating getting order of the pheonix to there collection of harry potter so now they have harry potter 1-5

My Family has been shown on the following days at Christmas since 2002 :-

2009 Christmas Eve
2008 Christmas Eve
2007 Boxing Day
2006 Christmas Day
2005 Christmas Day
2004 Christmas Eve
2003 Christmas Day
2002 Christmas Day

Someone will die.

An 'affair' will be discovered and someone thrown out.

Someone will have a nice day - but their life will go badly downhill soon after.

Repeat for all soaps every year:sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep:

Some brilliant memories there! Thanks. Made me realise how god-awful and tacky those 80's mechanical models were! But I loved seeing the 1993 BBC2 ident again! That was class. My favourites were BBC1 1997 as I thought it was a very clever concept on a traditional theme and the simplicity of 1998 with that bobbing red bauble was lovely.

If there is no new ident this year, I actually wouldn't mind seeing "Snowball" again, as it was actually extremely festive!

(Maybe as Watch has changed their idents now, which were virtually identical, the beeb WILL use Snowball again.)

That idea would work well, how old were Gary and Tony in the original series, I would have thought early to mid thirties so a special having Gary dealing with a mid-life crisis would be comedy gold.
