The Christmas TV Thread 2010

Yeah, that's the trouble. There is very little they could schedule on Christmas Day anymore, and that's largely due to an undercommissioning of situation comedy on BBC One over the last ten to twelve years. As the old hits have died out, very little has come through to replace them.

For the next Christmas or two, their best bet would probably be to find an old success to revive, as they have in recent years with The Royle Family and To the Manor Born.

But with only eight sitcom series on BBC One in the whole of 2010: Life of Riley, Outnumbered, My Family, Last of the Summer Wine, The Old Guys, Reggie Perrin, Not Going Out, Come Fly With Me, the sitcom slate is not very big.

Add in the fact one of the above has already been scrapped, and two of the others (The Old Guys, Reggie Perrin) stand a good chance of joining it, the cupboard looks a bit bare.

There might not even be a My Family special in 2011, if Robert LinRABay and Zoe Wanamaker stick to their guns about not doing any more after the already recorded series 11.

I agree with sheepdog's post above.

It will be largely garbage, as it always has been, and very lazy.

I haven't put the TV on during 25 December for several years. I record anything I wish to see - rarely more than two programmes, sometimes nothing. This year will be Dr Who and, maybe, The Royle Family (going by rumours), the latter hopefully being much better than last year's..

Anyone what to hazard a guess at the BBC2 schedules?

Now that would be hard I think!

I'm expecting the new ghost story to air Christmas Eve though:)

I think Indiana Jones will get the Boxing Day slot, like Pirates of the Carribbean did last year.

I think the commercial channels will try and get their film premieres out before Christmas Eve. I expect Wednesday 22nd will be used by ITV for a film as it has no soap commitment that night, and is useful filler.

Noel's Christmas Presents will be on Sky, as usual. They recently advertised for worthy people to be 'surprised'.

Are the BBC bringing back as a one off any old show this year like they have in recent years? Like The Royle Family, Jonathon Creek etc.

Maybe Last of the Summer Wine as it has been axed for at least a week now.:)

Rock and Chips as much as I want it on Christmas Day will more likely appear on Christmas Eve due to the fact it's more of a drama than a comedy. Upstairs, Downstairs I think Boxing Day, January 2nd and January 8th or December 18th, Boxing Day and January 2nd.

I wish they use another comedy rather than Royle Family for the third year in a row.

Ok. Here goes:

5.45pm BBC News
6.10 FILM PREMIERE: Nativity!
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 QI Christmas Special
9.00 My Family Christmas Special
10.00 Have I Got Festive News For You
10.30 The Graham Norton Christmas Show
11.15 The National Lottery Draws
11.25 BBC News
11.40 Midnight Mass

I think it's more like that ITV will show a new Poirot on Christmas Day instead of MiRABommer Murders. They filmed Murder On The Orient Express earlier this year so that would be ideal

Dunno really

I think last year would/will take some beating though ....... :)

I think there should be a Waterloo Road Xmas Special (feature length) ... anyone agree
