The Christmas TV Thread 2010

Jumanji first received its British terrestrial premiere on BBC1 on Christmas Day 1999.

i loved watching it that Christmas afternoon! Watched a film with Brendan Fraser and Helen Mirren recently on Sky (Inkheart I think it was called) and thought how similar to Jumanji it was!

Jumanji would be a fab Christmas Eve afternoon movie!
 
I think Outnumbered could do very well on Christmas Day and of course, Gavin and Stacey.

I also agree about the New Tricks Christmas Special! I think it would be huge!
 
I loved that film when it first came out! I was about 7 or 8 I think (can't really remember tbh) and I had a lot of the toys and everything.



That used to happen to us, I remember it quite well from when I was a kid in the 90s.
 
I don't know how advanced the TV companies are, at this stage, with planning their Christmas schedules but BBC2 could do a season of Tony Curtis or Norman Wisdom films as a tribute to them.
 
I agree about the Reggie Perrin slot. Although I think Not Going Out will take that slot and that Come Fly With Me will launch on Saturdays at 10pm that is currently taken up by Michael McIntyre. I don't believe Come Fly With Me will get a Christmas Day slot either.

In recent days, it seems the BBC are putting a lot of faith in Rock and Chips so you never know, it could appear on Christmas Day, but the only problem with a Christmas Day slot, is the aggravation that John Sullivan may feel about it being shunted to a 10.00pm or 10.30pm slot. Relegated if you like. Instead it could be the centrepiece of either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day.

One thing though, away from the scheduling, does anyone have any news at all about Christmas Idents this year?
 
I think I'm right in thinking that it's ITV's choice this year to pick the soap placings? The only reason I think that is last year they had Emmerdale at 6pm and Coronation Street at 7pm and they wouldn't have done that out of choice. Therefore I'm assuming that there will be a split EastEnders this year as ITV take 7pm and 8pm for the soaps:

BBC1
6.30 EastEnders
7.00 Doctor Who
8.00 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
9.00 EastEnders
9.30 *Comedy*

ITV1
6.00 eg. You've Been Framed at Christmas
7.00 Emmerdale
8.00 Coronation Street
9.00 Marple (?)
 
I dont disagree with that Iain. Rock and Chips did well in January for its debut and the show is certainly big enough to command a Christmas Day slot. But, it depenRAB if the schedulers want to stack Christmas Day up and have a full arsenal of top shows until late at night or have Rock and Chips as the centrepiece of a quieter night. Perhaps it could have the 9pm slot on Christmas Eve?
 
I know! Back then though it was a huge TV event! Beaten only by Raiders of the Lost Ark on ITV!

1984 was possibly one of BBC1's weakest for movies in my view. Mary Poppins aside, it only had "One of our Dinosaurs is Missing" on Christmas Eve and "Escape to Victory" on Boxing Day. I think Kramer Vs. Kramer also got a premiere that year too, but overall not much really. But, better than 1985 when for Christmas Eve they showed "The Slipper and the Rose" and that was it! Christmas Day had a Children's variety performance in the afternoon and the film "Absence of Malice" on Christmas night was the only movie premiere shown on all three main Christmas days. Oh, and the Robins symbol........
 
BBC primetime will probably be: Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders (60 minutes) and I'm going to take a bet on a Jonathan Creek special.

ITV primetime will probably be: Emmerdale (60 minutes), Coronation Street (60 minutes), Celebrity Cube (or another quiz show of that ilk to be smashed by EastEnders) and Poirot/Marple.

I wish there would be some originality in the Christmas Day schedules but there rarely is.

17:10 FILM: Shrek The Third
18:40 EastEnders
19:10 Doctor Who
20:10 Strictly Come Dancing
21:10 EastEnders
21:40 The Royle Family
22:40 QI Christmas Special
 
I think it will be similar to this but "Cars" may be the Christmas Day afternoon film and EastEnders may not be split into two episodes (it wasn't last year)
 
A few years ago Allo Allo returned. It was not exactly a "Proper" episode, but it was half episode/ half documentry ... But maybe this could be brought back for a Christmas Special? ... Or is Allo Allo not popular enough?
