The Christmas TV Thread 2010

I dont see why they couldnt debut it on Christmas Eve/Day. Walliams and Lucas are big names and this will surely bring in a lot of the Little Britain fans, especially as it looks like Little Britain set in an airport.

Im not expecting it to be at 9pm or have a plum spot but as a 10:30 offering it would be ok. In 2008, a Blackadder documentary got 5.52m in the 10:30 slot after The Royle Family. I would expect if Come Fly With Me aired in that slot this year it would easily clear that figure.

Little Britain Abroad got 8.87m, obviously inflated due to the day and the 12.39m Vicar of Dibley got before it but still got an excellent figure especailly at 10:30pm.

The Royle Family last year got 11.74m, so only 0.65m behind Vicar of Dibley that aired three years before it.

Its based on the book about well known chef Nigel Slater and his childhood. Its meant to be like Billy Elliott but with cooking instead of ballet.

I think it also mainly delves into his relationship with his mother [played by Helena Bonham Carter] who taught him to cook and who became sick and subsequently died when he was very young .The book it's based on is brilliant and I hope they do it justice.

If all these are so from the "possible list"... there are only 3 thing's on the list i'd consider watching! When are TV Stations going to stop showing reality rubbish and vote off thing's like "Strictly" I would love to know!

It beggers belief, compared to Xmas of gone by and decent if not excellent TV viewing! :)

Anyone know the soaps main storylines this Chritmas?

I read today that Tracey Barlow comes back to Corrie on Christmas Eve so I take it we will see the impact of her return on Chritmas Day.

I have sources in BBC and Radio times and will be able to publish a rough schedule for you guys in November time. My sources were fairly acurate last year, if anyone can remember? I've no idea what shows we are expecting to be on at the moment though.

You should know by now that is a very silly thing to do. ;) Thats like going into the Soap forum and saying Eastenders is crap or saying the BBC is great value for money in the Broadcasting forum

I think showing a film on Christmas Day night on BBC1 would be a bad move. I think BBC1 on their biggest day/night of the year should be showing original, domestic shows rather than a film that has been on at the cinema, Sky Movies and available on DVD. Its OK for early evening or afternoon and some films have rated excellently (Shrek 2 got 9.36m in 2007) but I think its a big of a cop out. Admittidley, if BBC1 do go this way then Indiana Jones is probably the best film premiere around apart from Harry Potter films.

Also, Wizzywick - the Indiana Jones film is 122 mins long so it wont fit into a 110 min slot. ;)

I think Christmas Day will look like this:

6.00 Breakfast
9.00 CBBC
10.00 Morning Worship
11.00 The Best of saturday Kitchen
12,00 FILM: The Santa Claus 3
1.25 The Sarah Jane Adventures (Part 2)
1.50 BBC News
2.00 Top of the pops 2010
3.00 The Queen
3.10 FILM: Shrek The Third
4.30 FILM: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
6.20 BBC News
6.30 EastEnders
7.00 Doctor Who
8.00 Strictly Come Dancing
9.00 EastEnders
9.30 The Royle Family
10.30 The Graham Norton Show
11.15 BBC News

This means Christmas Eve could look like this:

11.40 FILM: The Santa Claus 2
1.10 BBC News
1.25 The Sarah Jane Adventures (Part One)
1.50 FILM: Flushed Away
3.10 FILM: Enchanted
4.50 FILM: Nativity!
6.40 BBC News
7.00 Celebrity Total Wipeout (1/2)
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 QI
9.00 My Family
10.00 Come Fly With Me
10.30 Catherine Tate: Nan's Christmas Carol (rpt)
11.10 BBC News
11.25 The National Lottery Draws
11.35 Midnight Mass

I'm really optimistic for this year's Christmas schedules with the main days falling over a weekend and with there being an additional Bank Holiday. As a big fan of the old movies, I hope BBC2 show a feast of old film classics this Christmas. I really enjoyed their run of old films over the summer holidays, something which BBC2 hasn;t done in years, so I'm hopefull they will do something similiar over Christmas.

I also hope BBC2 shows a season of Norman Wisdom comedies to pay tribute to him. I believe they are showing a Wisdom double bill next Saturday afternoon, but a season of his films would be a better tribute to him I think. I also hope BBC2 run a season of films with the late great Tony Curtis as well.

Upstairs Downstairs should get a 9pm slot but I wonder if an 8pm slot would be better? Indiana Jones if it airs this year will probably get a 8 or 8.30pm. They could even strip across three nights.

Toast, I think will be air from the 27-30th December as NYE is usually reserved for a film but New Year's Day could work as well.

In 2005, the first episode of the third series got 10.2m - This was up against Doc Martin which had 8.2m. Thats an amazing rating!

So in 2006 when the Christmas Special was on, it was a huge hit show .... Come Fly With Me sounRAB to me just "Little Britain in an Airport".

A lot of people are mentioning films which may appear on BBC for the first time, but what about ITV?

Last Christmas ITV had some good movies and movie premieres on, but unfornatually, like most times, people just didn't watch them. They had Happy Feet, March of the Penguins, Corpse Bride and The Polar Express.

I'm not sure which were premieres, but they were all quite recent films, so hopefully ITV will show some recent films this year, and hopefully they will get more viewers.

I understand people don't often choose to sit down specially for a film which has aRAB through it, but they are perfect when you just want to relax, and I remember watching Polar Express, it only had about 3 or 4 sets of aRAB throughout it.

Any idea what ITV could show? I know they tend to have first rights to Universal and WB films.
