The Christmas TV Thread 2010

Possible BBC One Xmas Day:

15.00 - The Queen
15.10 - Film 'Shrek the Third'
16.40 - News
16.50 - Doctor Who
17.55 - Film 'Indiana Jones & Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'
20.00 - Strictly Come Dancing
21.00 - Eastenders
22.00 - Rock & Chips
23.00 - News

I don't think they'd waste two dramas together on one night. I can see Rock and Chips either taking Boxing Day or New Years Day - maybe the former if it's Christmas themed. It would seem a bit odd in the New Year. Not sure what they'll do for Upstairs Downstairs mind you - I thought it'd be Sundays over the Christmas period, but they'd need a new plan.

I think we might see the Royle Family as the only Christmas comedy offering. It doesn't seem like they have Outnumbered lined up, which would have been the obvious choice for a 10pm slot or so.

Right, My last ever predictions! (I promise :o)

Christmas Eve

20:00 EastEnders
20:30 My Family
21:30 QI
22:00 Come Fly With Me
22:30 The Graham Norton Show

Christmas Day

15:00 The Queen
15:10 FILM: Cars
17:00 FILM: Shrek The Third
18:30 EastEnders
19:00 Doctor Who
20:00 Strictly Come Dancing
21:00 EastEnders
21:30 The Royle Family
22:30 Michael Mcntyre

Boxing Day

20:00 Upstairs, Downstairs
21:00 Rock & Chips
22:00 News
22:15 Armstrong and Miller

hmm i cant see your soap schedule working out, as it leaves EastEnders a bit out of the loop. Doubt the BBC would want to start it 8.30-9.30. I know theyve done 9pm episodes before, but i think 8pm is the slot they would rather have,

Id go for something like

Xmas Eve

7:00pm My family
8:00pm EastEnders (40 mins)
8:40pm Qi Xmas special
9:30pm Film
11:00pm News/Euromillions
11:30pm Xmas day preview
12:00pm Midnight mass

Xmas Day

2:00pm Top of the pops
3:00pm The queen
3:10pm Film
4:40pm film
6:10pm News
6:30pm EastEnders
7:00pm Dr Who
8:00pm Comedy Special
8:40pm SCD
9:30pm EastEnders
10:00pm Rock and Chips

I think EastEnders works better in 2 half hour episodes on xmas day

Would "Not Going Out" really be big enough a show to attract the viewers? I really believe that Catherine Tate's Christmas Carol will get a repeat on Christmas Eve leading up to Midnight Mass. The Royle Family on Christmas Day and I think Not Going Out will be in the "Reggie Perrin" 9.30pm slot on Thursday 23rd.

Any reason why you think it will be so early?

The earliest start so far since 2005 was 6pm.

I think it's very hard to predict the schedules this year with Christmas Day being a Saturday meaning there's four days (or five if you count Christmas Eve) to schedule for!

Pauline Quirk is a surprising success in Emmerdale. Her new found popularity and the desire by Quirk, Linda Dobson and Lesley Joseph to do a special BirRAB of a Feather may come into fruition. Emmerdale may be the starting point needed for this to happen. I would like a BirRAB of a Feather special to be made.

Another idea may be a Goodnight Sweetheart special that focuses on Gary and Phoebe after the war and in a parrallel world Yvonne getting on with her life after Gary.

Then there's The Vicar of Dibley. Richard Curtis has always said that if women ever had the chance to become bishops, he may revisit the show with the intention of making Geraldine a bishop.

But next year, if ratings are as strong as expected this year, I think a feature length Rock and Chips will be the centrepiece of Christmas Day.

No it wouldn't. As much as I like the show, it's ratings have never been great and just isnt high profile enough for a Christmas Day slot.

There is the new sitcom from Lucas and Walliams called Come Fly With Me which is meant to air over Christmas. I think its a series but not sure how many episodes, so that could take a post Royle Family slot.

Perhaps something like this:

6:00am Breakfast
9:00 CBBC
10:00 Christmas Day Eucharist
11:00 The Sarah Jane Adventures
11:50 The Two Ronnies
12:20 FILM: The Santa Clause 3 (2006)
13:45 BBC News
14:00 TOTP: Christmas Special
15:00 The Queen
15:10 FILM: Cars (2006)
17:10 Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death
17:40 BBC News
17:50 Doctor Who
19:00 Eastenders
19:30 Strictly Come Dancing
20:30 Eastenders
21:10 The Royle Family
22:10 Come Fly With Me

Really hard to actually schedule all the shows expected. Maybe they would show Shrek 3 after Cars but then everything else is going to finish much later than normal.

I would be very interested to learn what deals the BBC have struck with film companies as there seems to be little knowledge with regarRAB to what films they have the rights for.

I know they struck a Buena Vista deal back in 2004, but is that still valid? It's just the films they show currently seem to be the same recurring films over and over again, even though their archives are chock a block!

For instance will they be showing any of these films this Christmas?

G-Force
Enchanted
The Game plan
High School Musical 3
The Golden Compass
CON: Prince Caspian

It is unlikely Madagascar, Over The Hedge, The Incredibles, Wallace and Gromit Curse of the WereRabbit will be on as they have all aired recently. Bet you though that Chicken Run will get it's obligatory airing!

Does anyone know any genuine details of BBC film acquisitions?

I absolutely love speculating about the BBC1 Xmas Day Line Up! The one above is pretty good although I don't think Rock and Chips will be feature on Christmas Day. From todays BBC confirmation about a SCD Christmas Special, I think it will be more like this:

2.00pm Top of the Pops
3.00 The Queen
3.10 FILM PREMIERE: Shrek the Third
4.35 The Gruffalo
5.00 Tonight's The Night at Christmas
5.50 BBC News
6.00 EastEnders
6.30 Doctor Who
7.30 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
9.00 EastEnders
9.30 The Royle Family
10.30 Not Going Out Christmas Special
11.00 BBC News
11.10 FILM: War of the WorlRAB
1.00am On Christmas Night
1.05 Overnight scheduling

Come on guys! Speculate and then have fun comparing it to the real thing in just ten weeks time!
