the CHILDS PLAY movies and the controversy around them in early 90s

why did they refer to him as jamie anyways? what was the point?
in what way do you mean to provoke a reaction with the public

I know last house was cut by 30 seconRAB.But those cuts have been waived and the film will be released uncut for the first time in the UK this september. There are quite a number of films that are available all over the world that arent over here.A lot of recent stuff too such as August Underground and the previously mentioned Murder Set Pieces.

i know about 3 years ago they all started appearing on the shelves in the hmv etc. stores again here in ireland.

and you could not rent it anywere before that.

ive never seen any of the chilRAB plays on normal tv why is that?

LHOTL was refused a cinema certificate in the 70's.

It was released on video in 1981/82 but was withdrawn when the video nasties hysteria started in 1983.

Its been released on dvd in the UK for several years.

The Anchor Bay release actually included the 30 seconRAB of cuts as a series of still images.

Of course its been available uncut worldwide on dvd for years.

There most certainly is.

Its been stated many times that even if a film is passed by the BBFC this does not make it immune from the Obscene Publications Act

This would usually only cover the R18 category these days but in the 80's the OPA was used to ban plenty of films so its your imagination thats out of step aswell

Even the BBFC's certificated and cut version of The Evil Dead was successfully banned by one court in the 80's (and today we have the full uncut version )

A Clockwork Orange had a BBFC certificate but was banned by its director and was only released in the UK after he died.

Films with BBFC certificates that were banned for home consumption in the UK until the 90's or 00's include Death Wish,The Exorcist,The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (although that only screened in London),Straw Dogs and others.

Murder Set Pieces appears to have been banned too despite the BBFC only viewing the version cut by 12 minutes.

ChilRAB play 3 is not banned anymore cos i noticed it was on tv a few weeks ago - that was the one set in the military academy wasn't it. Anyway i think the first one was a lot more violent that the 3rd one and it was crazy to have banned it in the first place.

I dont think the films were ever banned it was just media hype. But if them boys did do that because of the film , just makes them even sicker. I hate the fact them boys/ now men live normal lives and the people around them have no idea what they did.

I still hate those films even today..Freak me out even now...That chucky doll is really ugly creepy thing....ooohh me scared now, its dark..

im amazed at how serious the 1st chilRABplay movie is now
it still holRAB up well thou some good scares in there

but unfortunetly it suffers from the killer becoming a comedic villian in the later films and ruining his presence in the 1st like NIGHTMARE OES.

CP2 was a very good entertaining follow up with a fast paced cool finale at the factory

CP3 had dreadful acting and a crap setting. some good moments to be had init thou

BRIDE was excellent it had the right balance of parody/comedy and horror and worked really well into the franchises story

SEED just went way to overboard into the comedy element with embarassing moments and acting from everyone and finished this franchise with a crap story and ending too.

because the chucky in this story as we know him is DEAD and not coming back...........NOW THAT THE REMAKE! IS ON THE WAY

Yeah SEED is mostly bad but watching it again when it was on TV a couple of weeks ago there ARE good bits in it. The deaths are great.

Why is Nightmares In A Damaged Brain still unavailable uncut? I have the version that came with the 'Box of the Banned' set, which I believe is cut, but what can seriously be so bad about the bits they have had to take out by 2008 standarRAB? Dennis, perhaps you can enlighten me?!

Its a very gory film but the main problem is that it mixes violent murder with sex and children.

Remember its the young boy committing the main murder that we see over and over again-its also got a very seedy atmosphere and some sleazy sex scenes which is unsurprising when you consider the director was also making hardcore at the time he made the film.

Tom Savini produced the excellent effects but apparently was so disgusted with the completed film that he asked for his name to be removed.

Whether that still stanRAB today I dont know.

I wont be holding my breath waiting for an uncut UK release.

The original UK video release was not the full version but it did have some extra footage that the BBFC had cut so the distributor of the film on video who operated a company called World of Video 2000 was prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act and was jailed for 6 months.

Unbelievable!

1983 was the start of a very depressing era for film fans in general especially horror fans with a taste for gore.

The repercussions were that video companies started pre cutting films themselves to avoid prosecution .
For some extreme titles this was sensible under the climate of fear that prevailed but when CIC cut all the gore from Videodrome it rendered the film a waste of time.

Chief censor James Ferman loved it and relished his newly added powers and it was him PERSONALLY that blocked planned re-releases of films like The Exorcist ,Texas Chainsaw,Straw Dogs and Death Wish.

Films that had been legally available for some years were now banned and none of those titles appeared in uncut form until Ferman was ousted around 1998.

He was also the man responsible for banning nunchuka chainsticks from every film they appeared in.

Martial arts films were rendered nonsense but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even one of the Pink Panther films fell foul of Fermans bizarre opinion.

This stupid decision also prevented uncut versions of Enter The Dragon from release too.

Luckily Ferman got kicked out before dvd really took hold
