Hey,

I was wondering if any body knows the catch behind a cell phone contract?

I have just put this poll up fpor people to see who is really fed up with their contract!

i do actually.

even the 'free' phones you receive with a contract are pretty expensive. even a crappy lg c1300 (my phone) can retail over $150, so they need to tie you in for 2 year's worth of contract profit to make up for the $150 hit they took.

makes sense, right.

The only reason rate plans get get as low as they are is because you are under contract. If there wasn't contracts the rate plans would most likely be higher.

just like any sales contract. if you tie in for a longer haul, they give you a better price on the product/service.

makes sense to me.

i suggest if people don't like contracts, they should look to prepaid. then they will appreciate their contract.

Exactly. Nobody likes to be locked into a contract, but they give you a trial period when you sign up for a reason....to make sure you are satisfied(i.e. you have good enough reception/signal where you live). Just make sure that before you sign that agreement you know what you want.

If we choose to go prepaid, then cost per minute is very expensive? How can we avoid that?

I think somebody mentioned the 'free' phone already, but obviously they have to recover the price of the phone over the life of the contract, therefore locking you in for a reasonable amount of time.
