The "Carry On" thread

Does anybody know why Kenneth Williams didn't appear in Carry On Up The Jungle? was it because of other commitments or something? because this was about the only carry on he never appeared in

There was a couple from Camping, involving a loose ram and the showers. That explains why it is tied up to the post before it chases Joan Simm's mother in the end.

I love the Carry ON films and have the whole lot on dvd again.

I do prefer the Anglo Amalgamated ones bar Cowboy but find many of the Rank ones especially the costume ones in period settings to be my least favourite .

They are cheesy ,corny and over the top but thats what makes them so good.

Unlike Mark (barrel of laughs) A I also enjoy Russell Brand and Ricky Gervais.

I agree HIGNFY is past its best but its still one of the funniest shows on tv

It's nothing to do with understanding, it's a simple matter of if I find something funny or not. There's no magic or rocket science involved. It's either funny, or it isn't. That's all there is to it. You find Carry On stuff funny, I don't. So what? It's no big deal, and it's nothing whatsoever to do with snobbery or understanding. It's that little concept 'personal taste'. That's all. I happen to believe I'm right and you're wrong, but then I would, wouldn't I, seeing as I'm the only one who knows what makes me laugh.

Like one of your earlier posts that I replied to, you posted very little but it explains a lot. Your lack of like for the Carry On films isn't really based on whether it's good or bad comedy

I love the Carry On films - they're riddled with innuendo and are guaranteed to make me giggle when I'm feeling down.

I think my all time favourite has to be Carry on at Your Convenience, classic! :D

Personally, I wasn't a great lover of Carry On Columbus - I truly feel the film should have never been made

the fact they quickly threw: Julian Clairy, Martin Clunes, Rik Mayall and Richard Wilson into the mix - just didn't work in my opinion

the carry ons should have ended in the lates 70's after "Emanuelle"

Kenneth Williams was in 25 of the 31 Carry On films. He wasn't in
Carry On Cabby
Carry On Cowboy
Carry On up the Jungle
Carry On Girls
Carry On England
Carry On Columbus

Peter Gilmore beat Barbera WinRABor at 11. He's one of my favourites and he's often overlooked. He usually only has bit parts though.

My favourite Carry Ons would probably be

Screaming
Up the Khyber
Behind
Doctor
Again Doctor
Abroad (one that didn't waste the talent of Peter Butterworth!)
At Your Convenience
