*The 'Carry On' Movie Thread*

I watched Carry On Doctor Yesterday, and i've just watched Carry On Matron.

A lot of fans/people say that the matron, doctor carry ons etc arn't as funny or good,

i admit they wasn't as funny as camping, abroad etc but i still like them.

I am planning to collect nearly all of them.

have to say love them all but top 3 are:
screaming
doctor
camping
i want the whole boxset for christmas im hinting to my OH! kenneth williams is my fav:D:D:D

The one with Julian Clary they did was a bit hit and miss, and was missing the magical ingredient that was in the original films. Not sure what it was, maybe the cast.

Went to see Carry On Dick at the cinema in 1974!...was dissapointed so didnt see the next one Carry on Behind in 1975 till it came on tv ...thought it was excellent ...they used the same field for the caravan site as in Carry on Camping !! Thought Elke Sommer was very funny ! After then with England and Emmanuelle it went downhill!

I just ordered Carry on Abroad, Camping & Girls on dvd on amazon.

I am intending to collect them all. They are just classics.
I Love abroad, camping, doctor, matron...they are goodun's.

Who a few years ago brought the fortnightly magazine which came with a carry on dvd 'the complete collection', i was never a fan then but always remembered the adverts.

I watched Emmanuelle yesterday.

i was keen on that one.

Still, i have watched the whole set of my 'doctors and nurses collection' now.

Just waiting for the others to arrive.

Loved them as a kid, hated them as a young adult, now can take them or leave them. There are still some that are much worse than the others, and they tend to be almost exclusively the later ones. For pure camp fun I guess the Screaming one has to be their finest moment. I originally saw it at the flics in a double bill with Carry On Spying, which is also one of their better ones. Not shown as often as the others, for some reason. One of the last to be filmed in black & white, I think, which may account for that.

I remember watching the very first Carry On Sergeant when it first came out about 1959 I think it was. But, my favs are, Carry On Nurse (A Classic!) Carry On Don't Lose Your Head (Another Classic) Carry On Screaming (The one-liners are absolutely hilarious!) and Carry On Up The Khyber with the dinner scene during the bombardment one of the funniest ever!

Yes,I know they went down the hill eventually, but the early ones remain the best. Sadly I don't think many of the original cast are alive now, apart from Barbara WinRABor, Jim Dale and Dilys Laye.

They are somewhat underrated for much the same reason as Benny Hill - the jokes about knockers tend to overshadow the often rather intelligent wordplay and fun farce plot construction.

Indeed it strikes me that they are often more successful than more recent US comedies in achieving the goal of combining parody/spoof with non-stop gags. Compare the 40+ year old "Carry on Cleo" with this year's "Meet the Spartans". I know which of them will still be being watched (and found funny) in 40+ years time... and which of them wasn't funny in the first place.

I tend to find that my favourites are the ones I've watched most recently; none of them are perfect, although I do think that "Up the Khyber" comes pretty close (especially for the sheer nerve of getting away with that title.)

Have to agree with you. Never liked Jack or England because they didn't feature the regular team. But I'm not overly keen on the historic ones.

Favourites are:

Cabby
Camping
Matron
Jungle
Convenience
Abroad
Girls (just for the town of Firkham :D)
