D'you think he "closed the circle" that way on purpose? Evan stopped because what he wanted to do was make sure Kaylee would be okay. Then he burned his journals to make sure he wouldn't do it again. His fahter could have decided that him being in a mental hospital with his wife and son safe was the best he could do, and "give up". My friend says he might have been stopped- he WOULD have done it again, but couldn't.
