...what is the purpose it serves? it seems to me, that in contrast to a priest's collar (a "yoke"), a necktie can be grabbed and a person lead by another much like slaveholders grabbed hold of slaves by the chain that hung around his neck and was connected to another chain around the waist. That's just a theory.
