Did you know that within days of each other, on both sides of the Atlantic, a comic strip named Dennis The Menace. The American comic strip debuted on March 12, 1951. The British comic strip debuted three days late in the UK. While the US character is a precocious little kid, his British counterpart is a little more of a nuisance, a troublemaking brat that made Bart Simpson and the Eds look like choirboys. They softened him up a bit, but he's still a bratty character.

And he's coming to the US via The Hub. According to Cynopsis Media, episodes of Dennis and Gnasher (the title of the franchise outside of the UK) will be a part of The Hub's lineup at launch. There's 52 in total, and it's still in production. Good to see more international fare coming to The Hub. Here's the official site of the show, which has been on since 2009.

There wasn't any perceived demand for the property Stateside. There was an earlier Dennis and Gnasher series that aired in the UK on The Children's Channel and Fox Kids UK. The comic itself is still very popular (the comic anthology Dennis the Menace is in is the longest-running weekly comic publication in the world (by the time Weekly Shonen Jump debuted, The Beano celebrated its 30th anniversary).

Plus, the revamp of the franchise in 2009, which included the new series, made it more attractive to the US market. But then again, this is the American market, the one that made Miley Cyrus and Miranda Cosgrove a star, and the one channel that would give the series a wider distribution is undergoing an identity crisis. It's times like this that requires a fourth voice, and The Hub is looking to be that fourth voice.

I heard compared to the other Dennis UK cartoon that came out in the 90's, this is rather tame, because they wanted to make him less of a menace.
I've seen clips of it, and it's kind of boring, but I'm sure someone will like it. I'm glad the character's finally coming to the States.
Dennis UK > Dennis US.
