At the time a socialist form of leveling was needed. Especially to get through to the slack jaws in the south.

Today, not so much.

It would get lame if he tried to run it for too long. Huey Freeman is bomb ass. I love his character.

King was wrong to look to the State for economic equality - welfarism. He was right to look to the State to overturn the State's own inequitable laws.

What does slavery have to do with anything? There was no easy solution to slavery, but I don't see how an internal war is one of them. No other civilized Western nation in the world ended slavery by mass bloodshed. As far as Jim Crow is concerned, those were State laws and legislation that created that system. Individuals have every right to ignore, fight, protest, whatever against injustice from the State.

And that socialist form of leveling is exactly what created the decivilization present in the black community in America today.

False.

The war on drugs, latent racism, poor education, and starting from literally NOTHING created the impovershed state of various black communities in America today.

I think the war on drugs has been far more responsible for the economic blight of the black community than anything the CRA did.

The War on Drugs is part and parcel of the Welfare State I'm decrying against. If the State is needed to give you a paycheck, the State is needed to make sure you don't injure yourself with drugs.

I'm wondering how they rectify going from slavery to poverty. Being political slaves to being economic slaves.

I don't see why they shouldn't turn to the state for assistance when everyone around them is starting from the middle or upper classes. Wealth will breed wealth and poverty begets poverty. Now had there been complete freedom and their parents/grandparents were poor because of some sort of poor choices they had made...then I'd say quite crying and move along.

In this case they are poor because they were enslaved. Why should they not feel like they are owed something...if not by the state then by their former owners. Even then though their former owners were trying to use the state to keep a complete turn about in society from happening.

I don't see why they shouldn't turn to look for assistance and a level economic playing field to help their social and economic situation. They were placed directly from slavery into poverty and somehow people expected that they'd just accept that.

Early Chinese immigrants were treated horribly by the populace at large. They were no better than slaves, in many situations. Yet, the Chinese did not look to the Welfare State to solve their problems. They assimilated into culture, took pride in their own cultural advantages, and now Asians on average excel better in school and in the workforce than whites.

The blacks made a mistake in looking to the State to be their economic savior.

large groups of immigrants that came to our country had very little money and were discriminated against. lots of irish, jews, armenians, eastern europeans. they started on the bottom of the economic ladder. we need to stop giving excuses for people.

War on drugs =/= socialist policy

Providing cocaine to black laborers is.

Disallowing "lesser races" to drink alcohol driving them to cocaine and heroin and blaming cocaine for black civil rights riots is

It can be gleaned from his speeches. One in particular is "Where Do We Go From Here?"

Another is from his 1968 interview with Playboy.

King was a soft socialist.
