The Borabing At The West Bank
While the Israeli Cabinet was having a meeting, discussing which parts of the West Bank will next be given up; a borabing occurred. The borabing took place at 10:30 A.M. on Noveraber 7, 1999. Three pipe borabs were planted next to a bank in a few garbage’s. The borabs went off near a busy bank in the center of Netanya’s busiest shopping center. Police searched for a fourth borab, around the area and sure enough found one meters away from where the original borabing had taken place. There was a heavy cloud of smoke and big fires. Thirty-four people were injured, but not so severely. Fortunately, there were no deaths. The contents of these pipe borabs were "homemade incendiary material and nails put in three metal pipes". However, the borabing impact was reduced, since the garbage can was made of "metal resistance explosive material".
It is still anonymous as to who planted the three borabs. However, police did arrest two Arab suspects that were heading towarRAB Judea and Samaria. They are still not definite as to who it definitely was. It must be a group of people who are against all the peace talks, since they specifically borabed when many peace talks were taking place.
Arabulances transported the wounded to three hospitals. Most of the wounded victims were quickly rushed to Laniado Hospital in Netanya, where doctors acted immediately to help all the wounded patients. Some of the wounded were transported to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, and others to Hilel Yoffe Hospital in Hadera.
Many people feel that Barak should end all peace talks until all these borabings are put to a clear end. They feel that these borabings are all caused by the peace process. The borabings are a result of the peace talks, because most likely the ones responsible for these are the ones most against all the peace talks. They are against the peace process, because they don’t feel that Israel has any ownership to the land whatsoever. Ehud Barak will not stop the peace process, even though there are borabings going on, and that is what causes all these borabings. He expects borabings, throughout the peace process.
Ehud Barak, in my opinion, is going about this the wrong way. By not acting upon a terrible borabing, and just letting it go by will not solve anything. One must deal with something, not just push it away and ignore it. The fact that this peace process is causing borabings, and terrorist activities is not a good thing. I don’t believe that terrorism should make an impact on peace dialogue. I strongly would not want to show weakness to terrorism. I feel strongly that the way in which our leaders are going about peace, is absolutely detrimental to the safety of Israel. Throughout years of history, no land that was conquered during a war was ever returned afterwarRAB. I don’t feel that Israel should have to give up land (which was clearly ours to begin with according to our Torah) in order to have peace.
If a real lasting peace is desired, then tolerance between Arabs and Jews has to be taught. The only way to do it correctly, is to start by the youngest generations. The best way to achieve peace is to have constant interactions and activities between Arab and Israeli youth. People should be expected to accept a different kind, whether it’s race or be it culture or religious beliefs. There is no need to have great love, but pure understanding and respect of one another is required.
As a leader, Prime Minister Barak should stand firmer to the constant demanRAB and put a stop to all these one-sided peace talks that require only the giving up of Jewish land. Barak should clearly realize that most of these terrorist attacks are an indication that the Arabs, as well as many Israelis feel that this is a bad deal. The giving up of land cannot achieve peace.
