The Blair Witch Project

If someone watched it not knowing what it was they would enjoy it. That's what I reckon. But with the hype people expect a 'horror' movie, which it isn't. It's more like an experiment in filmmaking.
 
It was the experimental nature of the film that made it really work - watching it knowing that those film students had been set up and were really scared!
What did anyone think of the sequel, Book of Shadows? While I thought it was quite a good film, it really shows up the difference between a standard contrived film and the experimental nature of the original.
 
I love this film and have watched it so many times I almost know the dialogue by heart.

I do agree that the hype actually did it no favours though. And I do think it works best on the small screen. I first saw it in the cinema where there was very little atmosphere and the camerawork made me feel seasick.
 
I really enjoyed the film, it was more like reading a book than watching a film, because they left so much to your imagination. I think that's why a lot of people didn't like it, things weren't spelt out for them and they had to think for themselves.

The Last Broadcast is a similar film, worth a look for anyone who likes that genre. Alien Abduction: The McPherson Family (i think that's the title) is an easier type, it spells things out for you and doesn't require much imagination, still quite good though.
