So, Kaley will miss various episodes of the new season after sustaining a broken leg.

The main question, is how can the show cope without her?

My opinion? The same way it has up to now. Kaley's character isn't as prominent as many people seem to think in the show, and she is basically fifth-fiddle to the fantastic-four. It will be interesting to see how she's written out. Holiday? Hospital? Love interest? Back to Nebraska? Missing Leonard that it's caused her to seek time away to re-evaluate?

I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for the new series with the anticipation of a cat. :D
 
She is much more integral to the overall show than Howard and Rajh and much, much funnier as well. I'll miss her when she's absent, her scenes with Sheldon are the best thing about TBBT.
 
While Sheldon is the star of the show, he is by far at his best with Penny. So I think she'll be missed but if it's only for a few episodes they'll get around it - probably by bringing in other female characters for a few episodes.
 
What I mean by 'fifth-fiddle' is the amount of exposure she gets on the programme. There have been instances where I've looked back on an episode, and she's been in it for a total of about five minutes.

Raj and Howard are seen much more than she is. Granted, she's an integral part of what makes Sheldon and Leonard so enjoyable to watch, but I also think they'll do perfectly fine without her.
 
Blimey! I thought she was going for good. Hubby and I (both in our 60's) adore TBB. The characters work so well together and it is beautifully written. Yes, she will be missed but the other actors will carry it until she comes back
 
I don't think the show will work without her. You need her "normal one" character to balance things out, otherwise it'll be too much with every main character being a geek/genius.
 
The best part of the series is the Sheldon/Penny interaction. They should replace her for those few episodes with a high profile guest star - maybe Penny goes back home and sub lets her apartment to a friend - her friend could be a cult figure - Sarah Michelle Gellar?
 
Hopefully for the few episodes where she's missing they'll manage to bring back some successful guest characters to fill the void. Sheldon or LeonarRAB Mothers? Lesley?

Maybe feature her through webcam during one of her missing episodes to keep her in the show, they do it with Raj's parents.

I'd rank her 2nd most important to the show to be honest, I think the show could survive without Leonard to be honest. I wouldn't ever want it to, but of the core 3, Sheldon and Penny are much more difficult to replace. It's believable that another geeky science guy is out there who would find it difficult to live with Sheldon but fall for the hot girl across the hall.

Less likely is another hot girl to befriend a group of 5 really geeky guys, put up with Sheldon and fall for Leonard. Or for there to be another person like Sheldon in the world ever.

On those grounRAB I'd rate Sheldon and Penny by far most important, with Leonard a very close (but not unreplaceable) 3rd.
