The best web browser out there?

Opera features 3 different ways to scroll through a webpage. The first is the snail-like directional pad up and down, which is more like switching to each link as you scroll. The second, and faster, is the designated Page Up/Page Down buttons which are customizable (mine are on 2 and 8, just makes sense that way). The third option is the Find Next key, also customizable, which instantly sends you to the top or bottom of a page. Similar to Netfront, Rcadden?

Hi all,
obviously every ones opinion is valid and subject to personal taste and preference but on both the N73 and N93 i have never had a Ram problem with the browser or at all for that matter. But from what i have read many have had major problems with both Opera and Opera mini. For me the inbuilt browser does the job beautifully so can see no point in adding a 3rd party app as in IMO this where most problems re ram see to stem from.

Open Wave

Hi Sebhelyesfarku,
I never suggested it did as that would be stupid, but if you look at Steve Litchfields thread on where Ram goes you will see how Ram hungry both Opera variants are once running and that is were they use up Ram and cause problems by either shutting down running apps freezing or crashing from what people are saying.

About the memory issue. Someone said that Opera Mobile uses way too much RAM....

I made a test between Opera Mobile and the Nokia browser on my E61 and I noticed that the nokia one uses much more memory than opera.

Sure, when you look in Taskman, where it lists the amount of memory used per application, you'll see that Opera uses more memory, but the thing is, Taskman won't show the cache of ram used by the Nokia browser.

Here's how you can test the memory usage.

Load a big webpage like cnn.com on opera mobile, then go in taskman and look at your FREE ram.

Then load cnn.com with nokia browser and look at the FREE ram.

You'll notice you got a lot more free ram with Opera Mobile than the nokia browser.

I do prefer the nokia browser though, as it is embedded with the rest of the phone for loading streaming media and such, but Mobile Opera allows you to view web pages like the Nokia browser, AND to view webpages slimmed down so it is as wide as the phone's screeen. So you dont need to scroll left/right.

The Mobile Opera also allows to change the shortcut keys, it has a very useful homepage which doesnt require to connect to the internet before viewing it. You can scroll up or down quickly without using the joystick. And you can manage your downloads. The Nokia browser often started SHOWING me the download data (as if you opened the file with notepad) instead of storing it for running it. I couldnt download .sisx files because of that.

Ohh... and the nokia browser is in 2 parts, one for wap pages, the other for html pages. So you gotta switch everytime you change the type of webpages. Opera doesnt do that.

At least the nokia browser can view multiple pages and I love the "go back" function, but it's too "lite". Maybe if there were a hybrid of Nokia and Opera browsers, it would be perfect.

Until then, I use both browsers, depending of what I do.

my only problem is that the phone freezes so often when i use the nokia browser on then n91, does anyone else have this problem? or anyone know how to fix it? i will ebe updating my firmware today since it is now avaiable on the nokia website.

I'm guessing this is in reference to me. That's not what I'm talking about. What I mean is a browser-sync feature so if I'm using Opera on my desktop and bookmark a site, the next time I open Opera Mobile on my phone, it'll sync that bookmark to my mobile bookmarks, as well, so that both mobile and desktop bookmarks lists are the same.

Oh man it would have been so great if there was some kind of open source browser that used less RAM than the Nokia browser and with the same or better features.

I guess from this thread, the conclusion we can draw is that we just have to hope the next firmware release addresses this RAM spike when using the browser.

The first update for the N93 releases nearly 6mb more ram on start up raiseing it to 24.75mb which as the browser uses 7-10mb Ram depending on what you are viewing is good IMO.

Honestly, I find that I need both. There are some pages that don't work on Opera and some that don't work on the Nokia browser, for example: a complex site like orbitz or kayak or expedia usually works correctly on one of those browsers .

I think that when the new Nokia browser comes with password memory, I might find myself using Opera a lot less.

Tried it. Used it for 3 days now and seems to be decent. opera is still my fav. jb5 looks promising.... like some of their features.... may get there soon... but not yet though.

Have you guys ever tried jB5. It has good rendering speed very good display comparing Opera as well Web in Nokia Device. just try and have fun.
