The best race track you have ever been.

Hello everybody; I was just wondering what your impressions were in the race tracks you took your ducati's to. Which was the best both in the east and west coasts? Did you prefer slow tracks ( such as VIR Patriot and Summit Point JC) or long and fast tracks (such as Roebling Road and/or Calabogie CA)

Road America in Elkhart lake, Wisconsin is long and fast. It has a straight that's about a mile long. Beautiful scenery. Classic track....

Autobahn in Joliet, Il. is a country club. Two tracks that are connected for some track days. Really nice surface, great facilities.......about 3.6 miles long (Full Course) and 20+ turns.........

Gingerman in Michigan.....scary in parts, very technical. Takes some getting used to. After a few sessions, it begins to flow. Unfortunately, there are grooves in track where they laid the asphalt down......takes some getting used to.

I have never been to any of those tracks Johnny; I have heard however that Road America is absolutely gorgeous and fast. AMA races happen there. I, in the east coast have been to VIR north course which is both very fast and very technical. I had my F4 1000 there and on the long streight it was awsome...on the rollercoaster a little less fun (high possibility of ...Highside).

Other tracks I have been to are Kershaw, SC, Summit Point Shannandoah WV, VIR South, VIR Patriot Denville VA, Roebling Road in Savannah GA(designed by Ed Bargy)

As an aside, Road America is where Champ Car driver Cristiano da Matta hit a deer in a testing accident. Johnny, do you know if critters are common on the premises or was this a fluke event? (I read somewhere that CDM is ready to race again, but his docs want him to wait until the upcoming season.)

Same problem at Summit Poit - West Virginia; they actually worn you before a track day to stay on teh watch for....DEER!!!!

My favorite track has been by far Roebling Road in Georgia close to the boarder with Florida. Almost a mile long streight, very wide curves; I hit 180 on the streight and on the curve right before such streight I went up to 110. Awesome track, unfortunately it takes me approximately 6 hours driving to get there but it's worth it. Perfect track for my bike!

alfredo,

I haven't yet done a track day so I have no expertise, but I've been to the track a few times and, (at least at the tracks I've been to,) the tracks require that you tape all exposed glass/plastic, including the instrument cluster display. How do you know how fast you're going? Are you using Data Acquisition technology built into the bike? Or do they have radar guns at the track? Or does Roebling Road not require you to tape your dash display?

I'm getting ready to start doing track days this year and have been wondering about this.

Hi Elton,
in all the tracks i have ever been to they NEVER required to tape the cluster. My bike is prepared for the track so it does not have any lights, blinkers, tag plates etc. however while all track day organizations require taping the lights etc, you are never required to tape the clusters. This would be very detrimental if were not able to check your controls while you race....certainly it was not the easiest of tasks to read my tachometer at that speed: I just wanted to see how fast I was going in that streight.
