The best movies people have seen over the X-mas period???

I have caught a few films this year and wonder if the selection has been as strong as other years.
What has everyone else seen and what is the general feeling about the selection?

Are you talking about movies on TV or DVD?

If it's TV then by far, for me, it would have to be Pan's Labyrinth.

On DVD, the Blade Runner box set.

I was a bit disappointed with the film selection over Christmas really, but it was nice to see the classics such as E.T. and Oliver! but I really loved The History Boys which I hadn't seen before.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I quite enjoyed Rocky and Bullwinkle. I know it got slated in reviews, but I thought it was quite fun, plus my OH fancied the lead lady in it so it kept him quiet too.

On TV = Titanic - years since I've seen it and it was good to watch again :)

In the Cinema = I am Legend - brilliant!

On DVD = Renegade Justice - Steven Seagal back to his best after a few less than exciting films.

My favourites have been Mary Poppins and Muppets Christmas Carol.
I also watched Finding Neverland today and it was lovely although somewhat depressing.

Best one I saw on tv this Christmas was Boxing Day, Channel 5 - A Grandpa for Christmas.

I suspect it is what some people would call slushy rubbish, but to me it was exactly the type of movie that should be shown at a Christmas.... a heartwarming, (though predictable) family movie.

Channel 5 showed several of these - I don't know why ITV and BBC can't follow suit instead of churning out the predictable "hits" of yesteryear every darned year!

What I *really* missed this year were White Christmas and Little Women (1949 version). They are just a part of Christmas for me, even though I almost know the scripts. At least they are worth the repeat!

According to the front of the TV mags there were 3000 films on over Xmas on TV. 3000?? That must include all Sky movie channels and sat channels. Must admit I hardly watched any films at all. Was quite happy with the festive specials like Doctor Who.

On DVD = Transformers, The Simpsons Movie, The Bourne Ultimatum, Hot Fuzz, Knocked Up (all fantastic films imo).

On TV = 'E.T.' and 'The Hurricane' (Brilliant film with the always excellent Denzel Washington)

Apart from that, TV this Christmas period has been dire, particularly on the 5 main channels. Although well done to More4 for continuing to repeat The Sopranos and timing it perfectly so that a Christmas episode was screened on Christmas Eve :)
