;14595024']I thought it would be a good idea to try and arrange our own Poll to find out the Best Movie of all Time.

I have devised a method for organising this Poll

Stage One: Nominations
Please feel free to nominate your favourite movie(s) in this thread. Please put the name of the movie in the TITLE FIELD or on the first line of the message, You can nominate as many movies as you like, but ONE MOVIE PER POST please. If you would like to add a few comments about why you like it please do so.

Rules:
  • You can nominate any movie or short film you wish, providing it has had a general cinema release somewhere in the world.
  • Nominations will be open until the end of May, any nominations posted after 23:59:59 on the 31st of May will not be counted.
  • Movies not in the Title Field or on the first line of the message will NOT be counted.
  • Any repeat nominations be the same member will not be counted.
Stage Two: The Short-list
The 10 films with the most nominations will be short-listed, in the event of a tie, the tied movies will all be short-listed (this will depend on the number of tied movies). The short-list will be published as soon as possible after the end of May. I will then ask for a champion for each file, someone who can write a small passage about their chosen film (under 200 worRAB). When all the champion's cases are in, they will be published in a new thread at the same time. You will be free to debate the merits of the short-listed movies.

Stage Three: The Vote
As the champion's cases are published, I will request the RAB staff add a poll to the thread so that everyone can vote for their favourite film. The poll will stay open for four weeks, after which time we will the winner of the Best Movie of all time will be announced.

If you would like to take part, please do so by adding a nomination below.
In order to remain impartial, I will not be participating in the poll.

Al Pacino ... Michael Corleone
James Caan ... Santino 'Sonny' Corleone
Richard S. Castellano ... Pete Clemenza (as Richard Castellano)

The Exorcist 1973

I hated it because it terrified me, but I appreciate the impact it had.

Lee J. Cobb ... Det. Lt. William F. Kinderman

V For Vendetta..

I know it's not exactly a classic, but it was one of the only movies that has ever gripped or excited me.. It was the whole premise of defeating a 'Big Brother' government.

I've never seen it, doubt I ever will, not denying its probably a good film and great for its time a classic to many. But I just get bored with all these old films coming first and stuff. lol

It's like those BEST SONGS EVER countdown shows...nothing but The Beatles and Nirvana...lol

Psycho 1960

Plot Outline:
A young woman steals $40,000 from her employer's client, and subsequently encounters a young motel proprietor too long under the domination of his mother.

Anthony Perkins ... Norman Bates
Janet Leigh ... Marion Crane
Vera Miles ... Lila Crane
John Gavin ... Sam Loomis
Martin Balsam ... Detective Milton Arbogast
John McIntire ... Sheriff Al Chambers

The Beatles deserve to champion song/album lists because their music is so varied and brilliant. Nirvana...nah, not so much. :)

As for the best film....hmmm, i've really gotten into Clockwork Orange recently. Its grown on me so much. I suspect overall judging the public it will be Godfather or Shawshank Redemption though. Or Star Wars.

Interesting - I thought we would get HUGE nominations for the SW franchise. There has been one only, which seems to confirm my belief that the hype is exactly that; most people prefer genuinely good or great movies to those that receive huge advertising hype but have to live, ultimately, with the quality of the movie itself.

Elsewise, the nominations have so far all been for genuinely good movies which may (or may not) have had great critical acclaim.

Am I the only one to have actually nominated a movie?

Yeah, I know it's "crap like that..." but if nobody else nominates I'm a winner!

Seriously, it's a great movie from a more genteel age. Not that I have anything against modern movies - I love Sci Fi and serious whodunnits and just great shoot 'em ups with buckets of blood and all that kind of stuff. But, ultimately, Casablanca does it for me. It's a drama and a comedy and a romance all rolled up in the history of the time.

Star Wars? Sorry - as I said I love sci fi but Star Wars is the most over-rated hype I've ever seen.

IMHO...

A Few Good Men 1992

Tom Cruise ... Lt. Daniel Kaffee
Jack Nicholson ... Col. Nathan R. Jessep
Demi Moore ... Lt. Cdr. JoAnne Galloway
Kevin Bacon ... Capt. Jack Ross
Kiefer Sutherland ... Lt. Jonathan Kendrick
Kevin Pollak ... Lt. Sam Weinberg
