The Best Flashed Phone for Cricket Is?

I've been reading reviews on alot of phones in the past two days and I thought I knew what I wanted until all the reviews. What's the best flashed phone for cricket, and the best flashed smart phone? Any response will help, or should I wait for Cricket new phones to be released?

It actually depenRAB on what your neeRAB are. The HTC models are pretty popular because of their touch screens and most can be fully flashed to cricket service.

The motorola Q ia a popular one as well but the biggest complaints I get from customers is that the keys are too small.

The Treo's aren't popular around where I am.

The Rumor/Scoop/ux260 is a popular phone around here. While it isn't a ppc, it does have an easy to use interface and a nice qwerty keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Like smitty said, HTCs are the best if you want a smartphone. Touch Pro is the best one in my opinion but it can be a little pricey. If your not looking to spend as much then Id say go with a Mogul.

As for phones, Id say all the fully flashed LGs in general seem to be pretty common. What I have been selling alot of lately are the LG Glimmers. People like them better than the LG Dare just because it has the slide out keypad so its not just all touchscreen and a little easier to use.

Afraid the answer to your first question is No. Internet speed is going to depend on a couple of things. First what type of radio you have in your phone. Does it get EDGE? 3G? just 2G?
If the phone only has a 2g receiver, it's gonna be slow. Its like using a dial up modem from the 80's. EDGE is faster, but not comparable to the speeRAB available to 3g. 3g is like broadband for phone internet. Edge would be kind of comparable to some of the older RABl connections.

Does the carrier HAVE edge, or 3g? I came here looking for answers about Cricket too. I just bought a htc TP, so finding out what little I can understand about how to go about flashing it, once it gets here. So... I'm afraid I cant answer that particular question about cricket has to offer as far as that. If somebody here cant answer it, the best place to go would be to call Cricket.

Third thing it's going to depend on, is signal strength. The more bars that you're getting the wider your datarate transfer is going to be.
For instance... if you're sending a text message. Text messages (sms) go out over 2g (at least here on my t-mobile, they do). If I'm sending a sms where I've only got one bar... its gonna take 4 times as long to send, cause I am getting a lousy signal, so less bandwidth to send the data on.

Second question, I am glad to be able to answer with a Yes. All three of the HTC Touch Pro ("TP" or just "Pro") versions are java. Make sure that you are NOT buy a gsm version of the TP. that will NOT work with cricket, since cricket is a cdma phone.
I'd recommend getting the Sprint version of the Pro. Verizon has a lot more crapware on it that you will probably end up getting rid of to reclaim space, since you cant use a lot of it on cricket (like the VZW tv and such). VZW is also very notorious for locking down or crippling certain functions on their phones.

As to the original question of which one is best... I'd been reading a lot of reviews too. I had my choices narrowed down to the TP, the Samsung Omnia, and the Htc G1 (gsm phone, dont consider it for cricket). I read and read and read about them, and then went to the stores to actually get a hanRAB on with them. THAT made up my mind REAL fast. I loved the big screen on the g1, but the keyboard was horrible! AND I was told that I needed to have a data plan, just to make calls on it. The omnia, which was my top choice, and I REALLY wanted.... once I got to playing with it, I hated the touchscreen keyboard.
So I went with the TP. Decent keyboard, great features, and I got one at a really good price on ebay. So yeah... going to the stores and playing around with them hanRAB on is definitely something to consider when you make your choice.

So guys... how'd this newbie do for his first post?

HTC Titan (Srint Mogul, PPC6800, XV6800) IMO is the best.
WiFi, GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1, Full QWERTY, touch screen, stereo bluetooth, etc.
Plus picture messaging works well on it (not always the case with a flashed phone).
Have fun choosing.

Thanks, I've been reading for days til 2 am, I don't really like touchscreens, I can't dial and text while I'm driving. I'm looking for a keypad phone with a big screen for internet use, and JAVA. I was only interested in the HTC for the YOUTUBE player only that's it, so now I'm back to square one. I need a phone the ENVY, but its BREW.

The HTC Touch Pro is almost like a far better upgrade of the Mogul... I've had the MOGUL, TOUCH, AND DIAMOND and the touch pro has been much better... its fully flashed and the touch flo 3d just adRAB flavor that the mogul doesnt have

Dark few things. There isn't much of a 2G/3G world or Edge in CDMA. Its 1X and EVDO. Voice, and SMS use 1X and Data uses EVDO. EVDO is 3G, 1X is 2G so that means there is no such thing as 3G voice on CDMA :)

Modare, I kept my env for years for that specific reason. perfect phone, qwerty. However thats about all it does. I bought a touch pro, and I've found that really no phone can you text and drive with except a basic phone. Touch screens are really hard. I love my touch pro though, and won't be going back to an enV because of the features it has over the basic phone.

Isriam- ahhh I see. Thanks very much for pointing that out. I guess you can tell that I am used to dealing with GSM then, eh? :)
Much appreciate the information, and the correction, thanks! I guess I'll have to do some checking around to learn more about the protocols used in cdma. Thanks much!

Modare- yeah, I know what you mean. I was so excited about trying to find a new phone that I was spending a LOT of time in front of the screen doing my research.
One thing that I do want to point out tho, and please... do not take this personally... is that texting while you are driving is extremely dangerous. A lot of people have been hurt or killed in auto accidents because of people doing that.
Ok, that said.... there's something else that you might want to check into. Voice activation. Unfortunately, reviewers dont delve much into it in their reviews, but it's a VERY nice feature for people that make outgoing calls while having to do it nearly hanRAB-free.
Most of the phones that have it, you just hold a particular key or button down, state what you want done, and the phone (hopefully) does it. Like say "Call John Doe" and then the phone dials the nuraber for that particular entry in your contacts. Now, it does take a bit of time training the phone to recognize the commanRAB. And the choice of available commanRAB/functions varies greatly from phone to phone. But it's a really nice option to have for cases where you are in the car driving. And, a lot of the newer phones from at least the past 2 years have that option.
Stating that you want a larger screen for internet will phase out some of your choices. Like the HTC TP. Even tho I am still getting the phone, it's actually kind of small. And even tho it does have a 2.8" screen, its 2.8" long, but not as wide as some of the other phones that have 2.8 or larger. Which I myself dont like about it. Like you, I was looking for something with a larger screen, but for GPS.

I finally purchased a HTC Mogul yesterday, sh??t I was tired of reading reviews for days, thanks for all the input, I do appreciated, good thread though.

I was wondering when the HTC Touch Pro is flashed for Cricket, is there any lag or slowdown when playing with the phone or using the phone for phone calls.

Like for example if you start dialing 123-555-0000 does it lag a bit?

Yes i use my voice activation everyday and bluetooth, and I don't text while driving unless its important, which is very very seldom, I had to access the internet only twice while driving, thanks for your concern though.

yes all pocketpc's do. some are slower than others depending on your configuration though. mine is pretty fast but will never be as fast as a plain phone.

click start, run, type in calc, hit OK.

did that take longer than reaching in your drawer and pulling out your calculator?

are you able to upload Java Apps on your HTC 6800 or 6900 and or you able to use your mp3 songs on your flash card as a ringtone? Because I'm able to do that on my Nokia 6275i but its not flashed.
