The Best fathers in animation

I was reading the thread on the worst dads of all time and I figured the good ones deserved some love.

Let's see first of there's Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1980's & 2000's). He may not be the Turtles biological dad, but there is no doubt that he loves them and would do anything for them. He taught them to read, to read as well as how to defend themselves and no matter what happens he's always there for them.

Goofy (Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie/An Extremly Goofy Movie)- He may be a little out there, but he loves is son and is always there. One of the things I love best about Goofy is his self-doubts at being a good father and him trying even harder to be their for Max. The whole point of A Goofy Movie is that he wanted to spend time with Max before he was too grown up and to make sure the he was on the right road in life.

Charles Deetz (Beetlejuice) He might be one of the most nervous and high strunge characters out there, but his love for his litte "pumpkin" is unmistakeable.

There's alot more of them out there so what do you guys say let's give the good dads and father figures a chance to shine.

Proffesor Utonium most likely deserves some credit in taking good care of the Powerpuff Girls.

And Spongebob's parents. Even though they only appeared a few times, they seemed to be some of the more stable characters in Bikini Bottom. Even Squidward has freak-outs every now and then.

Hmmmm Mr. Incredible? he had is faults at first but he made himself better and into a pretty good dad.

Nigel Thornberry was pretty alright too. He was doing his own stuff alot but still showed love for his kids.

What about Krillin? When he started a family he let fighting and training tack a backseat so he could be there to raise his daughter. Something none of the other Z fighters did.

Wow, no one picked Hank Hill yet? He may be over-protective, but someone has to knock sense in not only Bobby, Luanne, and Peggy, but Riany Stereet as a whole, and there's Hank for you.

I guess I have to go with Jake Long's father, Jonathan Long. He cares for his son, daughter and wife, wasn't upset over the fact that his family was a bunch of dragons in the finale, and he knows how to protect his kid from the evil magic forces, while still being oblivious to them and think that there something normal. IE the Jersey Devil he thought that he was a bear.

Here's some of the best fathers that are my favorites:

Goofy(Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie/An Extremely Goofy Movie) - He's the funniest:D, but loves his son alot and wanted to do what's best for him and in the movie, I felt sorry for him when his son became a total jerk on him but finally told him about the electric chair punishment from the scary principal which was nice, but still became the greatest father ever for wanting to spend time for his son.

Nigel Thornberry(Wild Thornberries) - He's the funny dumb father at times, but the best father for his kids but I feel sorry for him with his daughter Debbie being a major jerk at times what I wanna punch her:mad: because of her crappy attitude towards her family.

Mr. Uno(No.0)/Mr. Gilligan/Mr. Sanban/Mr. Beetles/Mr. Lincoln(Codename:Kids Next Door) - All of them were awesome fathers especially Mr. Uno being the legendary No.0 and Mr. Lincoln sounding like Bill Cosby, hahahahaha:D:D:p.

Hank Hill(King of the Hill) - He's the best good father ever for doing what's best for his son Bobby & the family and knows how to stand up to the annoying jerkoff bad guys which were the highlights & he needs a new wife which his crappy wife Peggy totally sucks & is crazy.

Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible(The Incredibles) - He may have his mistakes when his annoying biggest fan Buddy/incrediboy became the awesome supervillain Syndrome, but he's still the best superhero father ever along the care for his awesome superhero family as well.

Jack Fenton(Danny Phantom) - He was the best good father who loves to go ghost busting with his sexy wife & I love his ghost-busting gadgets, when he kicks Vlad's butt which was the best part, and when he finally finds out his son's ghost secret.

Eric
(Home Movies) - Melissa's father who was the best good father for doing what's best for his daughter and is funny & goofy sometimes and is voiced by Jonathan Katz.

Nobuyuki
(Tenchi Muyo!/Universe/In Tokyo) - He was the best father ever who's pretty goofy but always there for his son and is one of the girl-loving perverts which he loves those alien girls living with Tenchi, but miss his wife who was the best & a heroine in the first movie.

Gale Glory(Rave Master) - As a big Rave Master fan, he was the best father ever which he and his son were a great team to crush King Gale which that battle rocked, & that part made me sad:crying: when his father died for protecting Haru when they wished to get home as a family which he'll be missed of all good fathers everywhere.

Hiro(Crayon Shin-chan/Shin-chan) - Shin's father who's the funniest & best father for taking care of his family but can be a pervert at times like his perverted son, but I like his parts with he's a tiny little superhero, being the dream hero to beat the bad wolves, and when he has a crush on the hot sexy doctor.

George(Blood+) - He's my favorite, but the best foster father ever for finding & raising Saya and would need Saya's help from David to destroy those Chiropterans, he fought well against the monsters and died while saving his family which that part made me sad as well which he'll be missed out of all good fathers everywhere.

Soichiro Yagami
(Death Note) - As Chief of the Police Task Force, he was the best father ever:anime: for loving his family and working with L(who's my favorite character) to finding the killer who's KIRA, he rocked on those parts when he got the tapes from the TV studio and did the whole act on fake killing his son Light, but the poor guy won't find out that his son Light is a psychopathic/sadistic monster with a God complex who's responsible for the killings and L's death that made me sad which he was awesome.

Dr. Spike Taylor/Dr. Owen/Mr. Drake/Dr. Ancient(Dinosaur King) - The best awesome fathers ever especially Spike/Dr. Owen's funny goofiness makes it great as well.

My faves:

Kim Possible's dad. Bucks the trend of dumb dads so rife in animation: he's literally a rocket scientist. Cute.

Mufasa in The Lion King. Strong, protective, a great role model. I actually cried when his ghost appeared to Simba. Disney is great at moments like those.

Mr. Incredible. Devoted dad who cannot deny who he is, and who's proud of his wife and kids.

Chicken Little's dad. Copes very badly at first with his son's seeming delusions and inadequacies, but rallies strongly at the end. When he says to his son "I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that my love was something you had to earn" is really moving and memorable.

Good to know that someone else besides me thinks that Hugh Test is one of the better TV dads. Sure, he can be obsessive and strict at times, but he clearly cares for his wife and kids and is pretty darn down to Earth when he wants to be. Sure, there's that meatloaf obsession of his, but every character needs a quirk.

Additional props go to Mr. Dr. Possible (Kim's father). He seems like a pretty nice, amiable guy, plus he gets bonus points for having one of the coolest jobs in the world: rocket scientist.

Agree re: Mr. Incredible, Professor Utonium and Dr. Possible.

I'd also add:

- Pa Kent: Superman's foster father clearly did an excellent job raising his son.

- Jor-El: Superman's biological father, who cared enough about his son to risk shipping him to another world for a chance of survival, no matter what (disbelieving Science Council in the comics, Brainiac in Superman:TAS, etc.).

- Pacha, from "Emperor's New Groove": Clearly cares about his children, and (despite trying his patience) tries to give good advice to Kuzco in the "School" TV series.

I'd have to go for the Dad in Rocket Power, Raymundo Rocket. He played as the cool Dad that every athletic loving kid would want, and as a single Dad he did very well in raising Reggie, but Otto was always pretty much on the borderline of hoodlum. However, when it came to discipline, he always knew just what to do.

I agree and not just b/c I'm an Amdrag fanatic. :D

Now,I know it depends on your definition of best, but Princess's father from PPG was one of the best at trying to satisfy his daughter (and/or shut her whinny trap up) but again it depends on how you look at the word best.

I think by best, they mean showing your kid love and support, but not afraid of punishing them or saying no.

Gohan I believe was also an attentive parent. While he might still be strong, he clearly doesn't share the same enthusiasm for fighting that Vegeta and Goku do.

I'd have to pick Drake Mallard from Darkwing Duck. Sure, Gosalyn isn't his real daughter, but he and Launchpad are the only family she's got, and she may be a pain sometimes, but she does come through. Plus she saved his life when he and Quackerjack got trapped in the Whiffleboy game by stepping in to help since she knew the game.
