The best child stars?

In your opinion, who are the best child stars of our time?

I was watching "A.I" the other day... and was really disappointed by Haley Joel Osment's performance - despite his incredible scenes in Sixth Sense.

Shirley Temple, obviously, is one star that always seems to be first on peoples list... but I think today, our greatest child star has got to be Dakota Fanning with her performances in those such as 'War Of The WorlRAB' and 'Man On Fire'

Who does everybody else rate as great child stars?

I'm going for the very obvious one here, Macaulay Culkin.

Hey, he was from my generation afterall, grew up watching and loving him in "Home Alone" 1 and 2, "Uncle Buck" and "My Girl" (such a sad Film the latter:cry:).

I think he's a few years older than me though? I'm not sure:confused:.

Edit:

YAP! I was right. He is older than me by 6 years:).

Like Red-Eye said, Macaulay Culkin. Some fantastic performances from him in the aforementioned films, and My Girl is my favourite film of all time :p

Best child stars, I think some would be

Mickey Rooney
Elizabeth Taylor
Juliette Lewis
Drew Barrymore
Jodie Foster
Jack Wild

Tell you who gets on my nerves. Just check my daughter is not spying on me here now:D
Hannah (bloomin) Montana. Talk about over acting:eek: Her facial expressions should earn her 'Gurner' of the year.
She has a film out so yes, she counts:)

1. Dakota Fanning in Man On Fire
2. Dakota Fanning in War Of The WorlRAB
3. Maculay Culkin in My Girl
4. Drew Barrymore in ET
5. Haley Joel Osment in Sixth Sense
6. Jenna Boyd in The Missing
7. Abigail Breslin in Little Miss Sunshine
8. Dakota Fanning in I Am Sam
9. Georgie Henley in Narnia
10. Maculay Culkin in Home Alone 1 & 2

The actress who played Matilda and was in Mrs Doubtfire, Mara Wilson I think her name is. I always thought she was good.

Aileen Quinn who played Annie in the film Annie, I absolutely loved Annie when was little and know I appreciate just how fantastic Alieen is (was?).

I've got to say Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as well. :o I'm a massive fan of Harry Potter and although these three may not compare to some other child stars I think they're absolutely great.

Abigail Breslin by far. Even in Signs she was brilliant - "This water is contaminated..."

She just steals the show in Little Miss Sunshine

How about Jessie Mills?

I was watching 'My stepmother is an alien' the other week and spotted her out of Buffy Vampire Slayer and American Pie. It made me laugh from trumpet player to 'I saw her drinking battery acid out of your car, I did honestly, but you don't believe me'.

For me it is Mary Badham who played Scout in the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird.

Despite having no previous acting experience she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance. She was only 10 years old. Strangley she did not act again for about 40 years when she came out of "retirement" to take a cameo role in an obscure film. And that apparently was her entire film career.

It makes me wonder just how more successful she might have been.

I forgot to add Natalie Portman to my list.

She may have been off in the the Star Wars prequel but other films i have watched of hers as a teen and now as an adult, her acting has been very good. She also seems down to earth and doesn't hog the celebrity limelight.
