The Best (And Worst) Of 2008 In Animation

Best show: Chowder. Excellent character design and animation, great soundtrack, perfect voice acting, constistently funny writing. I really can't find anything bad to say about this series. Second place goes to The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, which seems to still be finding itself writing-wise (it's gotten better lately) although it also has a wonderful animation style.

Best movie: Kung Fu Panda. Um, because it was the only new movie I saw this year. Seriously, though, it had great characters (I'm a sucker for anthropomorphic animals if done right), an interesting plot, and for once, DreamWorks made a movie that didn't contain a single fart joke or pop culture reference. That, and Po is cute. :-P

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" wasn't exactly an insult to the medium, it was an insult to "Star Wars" fans, but that can be said about most of the prequel trilogy...

I dont really watch alot of cartoons just marvel stuff.

Best Movie: WALL-E

Best Show: Spectacular Spider-Man - Best portrayal of Spider-Man in a while good story and not once do you feel bored of the show, also good portrayal of villains such as Electro and the Green Goblin.

My favorites from 2008 were the Star Wars:Clone Wars movie and TV show. Also, in 2008 the 2003 TMNT cartoon's lost season finally aired and was released on dvd.

See, I LOVE 'Clone Wars' to death, but it's really one of those things that looks so much better on the small screen. (I could see bitmap detail on the movie screen too, which proves that it's nothing more than a glorified 90 minute pilot)

It's actually gotten a lot smoother in the last few episodes -at least, from a certain point of view- and I have a feeling it'll only get better, at least, for a CG cartoon series on cable TV. I'm not expecting smooth, buttercream-like perfection along the lines of Pixar, though. (But in comparison to something like, say, 'Voltron the Third Dimension', it's pretty slick)

But yeah, I do agree the movie felt rather stiff, especially in comparison to the TV show.

And I agree wholeheartedly about singing the praises of WALL-E.

you know what show i really liked that premeired in 2008?

Phineas and Ferb.

i can say that i had gone a good 3 years with out watching disney, until this show came up. the sad thing is, is that i think that disney wont give it a chance because there still on their "teen idol" high. i mean i cant remember the last good animated show that came on disney channel. good to me at least.

Best:

* Wall-e. Not all good movies are very entertaining, and not all entertaining movies are very good. This is one of those rare films that are both about as entertaining as a movie can possibly get, and damn near as good as it can get. Possibly the best animated film ever made.

* The Simpsons went on with a slightly larger number ofgood episodes than most other seasons produced in the last ten years.

Worst:

* The Clone Wars turned out to be a completely soulless and pointless movie.
