"The Bee Movie" Talkback (mild spoilers)

I personally liked it, and so did my mother judging by the way Seinfeld promoted it on all the talk shows. That is, I saw it in the theaters, she saw the promos on the talk shows.

Should I mention the special message of the importance of bees in our ecology that the film carried in parallel to our bee situation? That's probably where some thought the movie dragged on, but having an science teacher in the family, I figured that rang some kind of bell for me.
 
Hmm, odd. Either others aren't as concerned about it as I am (thus they didn't draw parallels) or they don't know about it to begin with.

I forgot to mention another part I found funny: Barry fighting the random warehouse worker in a sword-like duel. That was such a silly moment, with the tiny push pins used as weapons and such.
 
I haven't seen this movie yet, but my mom and I babysit two little kids, so we probably will. It doesn't look like a big hit to me. I think it's just one of those computer animated movies that kids wait all summer to see and then forget about in two years. I'm talking about Open Season, Madagascar and the like. That's what I think anyway. I've only seen previews for it (and that cheapie Burger King ad), and I can't critique a movie until I've seen it. Just predicting.

Anyways,a bee with someone's face makes me say "Ugh."Especially Barry Bee or whatever his name is.Do you want to know something I figured out?Dream work's probably only made this movie to stay up-to-date with P/D and b/c they wanted the marvelous experience to use their new CGI tools on the bee flying around and glooping pools of honey. *sigh* Can't we have a movie like The Lion King or something that tells a beautiful tale.Happyfeet at least tried to.But I'm tired of penguins,rats and insects.We need something different. :D
 
Well, I've got to say that this movie has one of the weakest plots I've seen in an CGI animated film. While I know I'm suppose to suspend my disbelief with these kind of films, but some scenes really had me scratching my head, especially after the courtroom scene. So all of the world's bees are in/around Manhattan? Dead flowers can be pollenated? Bees can fly as fast as a jet airliner? In fact the whole climax with the jet seemed completely random and artificial as a conflict. It wouldn't have bothered me if the plot was treated as a complete farce, but since it seems to want the viewer to take it seriously in spots, it didn't really gel with me. I couldn't help but laugh at how evil those beekeepers were.

Jerry Sienfeld and Renee Zellwinger's characters pretty much carry the entire film with their humor and charm. Plenty of witty jibes kept me from paying too much attention at most of the plot's flaws. While still a far cry from Pixar, the CGI rendering looks like it's improving, especially for the human characters.

So I found it a rather uneven film that sort of lost momentum about 2/3 of the way in despite maintaining a good amount of comedy overall.
 
I saw this movie today, and I actually liked it. It was better than I expected. I liked Jerry Seinfeld's character, and I liked all the jokes. My favorite highlights were the Bee Larry King scene, all the court room scenes, Winnie The Pooh being taken down, all the scenes with Patrick Warburton's character, etc.

There were some hilarious gags here and there, and some really nice backgrounds.
Other then that, I found the film particulary weak.
Though I love the lawyer gag near the end. :anime:
 
This movie was pretty funny. I thought it was going to suck, but it's as good as Over the Hedge in its own way, and way better Sharktale, (and Madagascar, story wise).

I give it a B/B+.

I did like how the movie basically never took itself that seriously. The Larry King gag had me laughing for a while, as I'm sure Seinfeld knew the ridiculousness of cartoons having animal versions of celebrities.
 
My first Pixar movie that I was forced to watch against my will...lookee there.

It was amazing to see just how much this movie was made with a licensed game in mind. I'm not sure if I'd get the same opinion from watching Toy Story again, but it was hard to deny here.

Also, too much adult humor; not enough to make me laugh, but more than enough to fly over the kids heads. The entire plot was based on lawyer jokes/court room drama.

I'm probably thinking about it too much. I liked the human girlfriend though, she had a cute voice.



Ray Liotta scared me. He had a Hannibal Lector thing going on.
 
I can sense a Seinfeld joke here, if he reads the online forums, feel free too use it Jerry... :)

'He ransacked the whole movie logically, but he had no problem with the bee getting involved with a human...plus he thought the design was cute. What's up with that, people?'

You mean Vanessa? I liked her too; she was a total cutie-pie. Renee Zelwegger (sp?)'s breezy voice added a nice touch to the character.
 
Well, I finally saw the film, and I thought it was reasonably funny. Not laugh at loud funny, but chuckle funny. Most of the characters were likable, and the ending was nice. I wouldn't call it a great film, though.
 
I haven't seen it since the DVD first came out, but from what I remember, I actually kind of liked it. I mean it's not Oscar material, but I still found it enjoyable.
 
I may be a bit biased, considering how much I love Seinfeld, but I really enjoyed this and thought it was great. Jerry Seinfeld and Spike Feresten brought a style to it that helped set it apart from other CGI animal/insect/creature/whatever movies. Was definitely one of the better CGI movies I saw in the last decade. And for having never done voice acting before, Seinfeld sounded like a real natural. I would love to see a sequel or something else like this from him.
