The Beatles

have you listened to all of their discography? specifically the later part of their career? i agree with the notion of "what is popular is not always right, and what is right is not always popular", but there is a reason just about everyone thinks they are the best band of all time. everyone is entitled to their own opinions so i cant say that yours is stupid, but i think you havent put enough time into it. they were able to transcend through many different genres and were well loved through it the whole time (something that can be said about very few banRAB). beyond that, they changed music in a way few other people ever have. sgt pepper and the lonely hearts club band completly broke the rules for recording an album, it set the stage for an epic era of music. really man, if you close them off your only hurting yourself.

edit - and although maynard is very talented... he is definetly NOT the best song writer of all time.

boo boo

I would say the fact that I don't enjoy a single song from the Rubber Soul Album places me well within the limits of my mind when describing as the worst in my opinion.

LOL. You say this quite a bit. Quality>Quantity. Its probably junk or pretension, and I'll bet i've got 100 gigs of music you've never heard of. I'm just wondering what it means in the scheme of things to have not heard scrolls worth of terrible music. I've never heard, for example, Agrophobic Nosebleed and I think that makes me smarter and a more astute judge of music.

White Stripes > White Album

The Beatles are classic. And Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club is classic.
I lost my Beatles tee-shirt. And I have a stoner bus driver who plays them everyday.
What's not to like? :D

*no sarcasm, i really really do like the Beatles :)*

Completely agreed. Plus, a lot of the 'influence' they supposedly established is based on faulty presumptions; I read a review today that said one of their songs laid the ground for noise musicians, and that 'Merzbow would be lost without The Beatles' (albeit he was inspired by some noisy albums by the Beatles solo merabers, but never by this particular song the review was talking about). That's not really The Beatles' fault though, just fans who like to bloat and overhype things to a point of no return. Overrated by fans and critics alike, simply because their influence, musical experimentation and songwriting simply doesn't/don't stretch as far as people claim so often. Not to take it away from them completely though, as they were genuinely influential/original at times.

How many times does it need to be stated, he DID write songs, therefore he DID contribute to the songwriting, christ and I believe it was already debated on his drumming skills. I wish people weren't so dertermined to hate Ringo.

HOW COULD YOU PREFER LET IT BE?!
THAT IS OBVIOUSLY THEIR WORST ALBUM AND NOBODY LIKES IT!

DIDN'T YOU KNOW?! What a jackass. Hmph, get some taste.

You can't really hate them they are probably the most legendary band of all time. I'm listening to Revolver now and there are some really underated songs on it.

anyone here heard it? apparently supposed to be pretty cool. for those who don't know, beatles producer george martin remixed 20 odd beatle songs and put em on a "new" album called 'love'. seems interesting. ill buy it in a couple days or so and post what i think because everyone here is obviously dieing to know my thoughts on it.

i was hoping i could get some previews there. didnt.

My overlong statement was intended to be ironic somewhat since it ws coming from a prog fan, but classical, jazz, prog whatever, those are completely different genres, all of which require their compositions to be long in order to work... The Rolling Stones are a rock n roll band, not a genre but an attitude, and to me, Rock N Roll songs shouldn't be any longer than 3 minutes or they will get annoying, the typical Stones song is just as repetitive as any Ramones song, so there's no reason the songs are not as short, if you're gonna make a song 4 or 5 minutes, then for goRAB sake throw in a damn solo or two, not just add more repeats of the verse and chorus for no paticular reason.

Rolling Stones good.... The Beatles bad.....?

Seriously, you're getting duraber by the second. I would buy a Ringo Starr album over a Tool album any day, and you want to know why? Because Ringo is 10x better at least.
