The Beatles

Nope, but the better stuff was.
In the latter of their career, John and George were the real strong points. Sure, Paul had great songs in the last half of The Beatles; Blackbird, Long and Winding Road, The last half of Abbey Road. But Johns stuff was much more impressive at that time.

I'm almost surprised to think I've never heard that argument before. Most of the background seemed unneccesary and the big red writing was just annoying but you've got a good point. Maybe it was John's songs that kick-started the band, although I'm not exactly clued up on early 1960's guitar banRAB and early Beatles is nowhere near as memorable to me as their work in the second half of the 60's.

I wouldn't even agree that his songs from the early years showed 'burning genius' but yes, you might be right that it was his songs that got them noticed and uber popular in the first place.

I don't care if Paul can sing and play, so could George, and weither hes a better singer is debatable, but he's certainly a better guitarist.

His licks on Something, Fixing A Hole, I've Just Seen a Face, She Said He Said, I Want You (Shes So Heavy), Let It Be, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Ticket To Ride, Hello Goodbye, Dear Prudence, Sexy Sadie, I Feel Fine, Come Together, You Never Give Me Your Money, Polythene Pam, I Me Mine. I can go on.

Can anyone help me out here, I just recently started to discover that The Beatles do have some really cool songs. Before, if I thought of The Beatles I thought of Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, etc. but recently I've started listening to Tomorrow Never Knows, I Am The Walrus, Lucy in the Sky with DiamonRAB, and those are some really cool songs.

So, can someone suggest me some other really cool psychadelic Beatles songs, or have I basically listened to all the ones that are really going to impress me?

Sgt. Peppers isn't my favorite. I like Revolver and Rubber Soul best, but honestly I don't understand why so many people trash it, it has some of my favorite Beates songs on it and I think its a fairly solid release. Do you think if Lennon had been labelled the force behind it would it be rated higher?

Too many questions but put simply: they were the right band at the right time concerning the growth and emergence of popular music. They enhanced modern music a lot which shouldn't be a place for argument but they were not the only band in the 60's changing popular music whether through innovation in the studio or the consumer market.

Ringo got some help from George on "Octopus's Garden". So of the many Beatles original studio albums released in the USA and Britain, Ringo contributed ONE song that can be called all his own.

Actually, Ringo didn't write most of his drum parts. John and Paul usually explained to him what they wanted, and he worked it out under their direction. It's also a hard fact that on multiple occasions when Ringo's drum tracks were sub-par, Paul would go into the studio and re-record the tracks to get them right.

No less a figure than John Lennon considered McCartney to be the best Beatles drummer!

Why? It's easily one of the best albums they did, top 3 material. The only reason I don't rank it higher is because I played it way way way too much and now can't really listen to it but c'mon, Something, Because, Come Together, Here Comes the Sun, Octopus's Garden, Oh Darling!, Maxwell's Silver Hammer...

The only songs on Magical Mystery Tour I think could have been left off are Flying and Baby You're A Rich Man, aside from that, I'd say it's almost as good as Sgt Peppers.

And Ethan, knowing your tastes, you should difinetely start with The White Album.
