Die Hard has never been reclassified as a 15 according to the BBFC site, nor have I ever seen a 15 cert copy of it. The original was uncut at 18 level, and no other version has been given to the BBFC for reclassification. Frankly, I'd be horrified if Die Hard was ever given a 15 cert. It's one of the most seminal and violent action films ever made.

The Terminator was rightly given a 15 back in 1999 for DVD release, quite funny when you look back at the almighty stink it created when it was first released.

On a side note, the BBFC database doesn't bring up the 18 cert version of Die Hard 2 which was released in the mid 90's on DVD and Laserdisc. I've only got the uncut US DVD version, but I assume the UK 18 version has the icicle scene.
 
The Evil Dead 2 decision is not too suprising when you consider the reaction to the film when it came out compared to the first one.

The first one was still cut in the UK until less than 10 years ago

More surprising is the 15 given to the original Night of the Living Dead which was cut to ribbons here for years
 
That seems odd and unlikely.

There's no way its going to sell in a cut version when its been uncut for 20 years.

Unless Optimum have been supplied with a time compressed copy there's more to this than meets the eye.

Optimum dont have a good record on any releases so if they have footage missing chances are they wont know or even care

Nearly all the video nasties that are still unavailable in the UK are available on dvd from other countries.

I have a superb BU version of Fight For Your Life with commentary and extras.

Although some of the UK dvd versions are still heavily cut like Island of Death(12 minutes) and House on the Edge of the Park(15 minutes) there are others like SS Experiment Camp that are uncut.

The main problem with the nasties list was that it gave an undeserved notoriety to a lot of films that are complete rubbish
 
My dream job would be to work for the BBFC. Watching films all day and telling people they're not old enough :D

The biggest joke is they classified an Amityville sequel, Amityville 4 (the one with the haunted lamp) as a 18 certificate. This always makes me chuckle because the film has ZERO bad language, no sex, zero violence. The only thing in it which is questionable is the split second shot of a guy losing his hand to a waste disposal machine which is as tame as it gets. And Evil Dead 2 gets a 15?!

I want some of the stuff they're smoking.
 
Here's a weird one: Mamma Mia is a PG, but Mamma Mia Sing-a-long :rolleyes: is a few minutes shorter and classified 12A.

Perhaps the presence of a few hundred singing Abba fans is enough to warrant parental supervision?
 
Well, the 15 version has playing time just one minute less than the certified 18 version. My mate has also confirmed the chainsaw scene is heavily edited as well as other violent scenes in the new version.
 
The Amityville thing happened when Ferman was still very much fuhrer in chief. You have to distinguish between what's gone since his retirement in 1999 and the dark ages that existed prior to that.
 
Funnily enough there is an article up on melonfarmers where an ex bbfc person saying most of them have to watch hardcore porn for hours on end 5 days a week. Which doesn't really sound fun at all.
 
When will they ever learn with these Blu-ray transfers? The whole point is that we WANT to see the film grain, we WANT to see a clearer picture, NOT a Dolby Noise Reduction version that blurs all that out! Dear oh dear...
 
Ferman was just bonkers. I believe he did an interview with the mail once expressing regret Man Bites Dog and Romper Stomper were passed (even though he approved both of 'em.) He also suggested Romper Stomper was basically passed by mistake, suggesting paperwork giving it an 18 was sent to it's distributor in error, but it would have been impossible to correct.
