ehhh, aviator is an amazing movie. the only problem is the million dollar baby is an awesome movie, and overwhelmed favored to win. these two movies will go down in history as a pair of matches.

:thud: This movie was brilliant! Great great great. Leo was fantastic in it. I definitely thought it deserved the Oscar. I can't wait for my DVD to come so I can watch it again.

That was how I viewed it when I left the theater. As someone who knows Howard Hughes' life pretty well, I was quite disappointed in this movie. It had a lot of potential but I don't think that Martin Scorsese had a very clear vision while making the film. It left me feeling pretty empty. After nearly 3 hours, I felt like I didn't even know any of the characters at all. I definately think that MS had too much to tell and couldn't tell it all.

Then again, there were these group of guys in the theater who wouldn't stop talking. The whole time. Annoyed the hell out of me so I couldn't concentrate on a damn thing. Maybe that's why I felt so disconnected from it all. Leo did do a very good job on it though but the person who blew me away was Cate Blanchette. She was just awesome throughout the whole thing.

I guess I'd recommend the movie, it did have some pretty amazing parts. Definately not one for the masses though.

I finally watched my DVD and this movie was really great! I think Leo was incredible, in those 3 hourse he is Howard Hughes to me! And Cate was so great as Katherine Hepburn, at least she wasn't jipped out of her Oscar, she was so good!

Am I the only person who didn't like it?

I think my main problem was just with the direction. I felt like the film just lacked a focus, a cohesiveness, and MS couldn't really get to the point that was so desperately reaching for, hence why the film ran for three hours. It either had too much to say and was bursting to tell it to you, or had nothing to say at all. I let it sit with me for a few days after I saw it, and I just didn't like it, which I think happens sometimes. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either. Average, at best.

Leo was great, though. As was Cate Blanchette - I love her.

:look: I've seen the movie twice and may see it once more. It's a really powerful, amazing story.

Check out this CNN.com article about Hughes and Hepburn. After reading that it seems the movie portrayed the relationship quite acurately.

After seeing that crash, how in the world did he survive?

I've wondered what else he may have accomplished if he didn't end up like he did or hadn't had those issues. But then again, his obsessive compulsive nature probably helped him achieve what he did.

i have to agree with those who didn't like the film..actors were great but the movie lacked cohesiveness. definitely not something i'd go see again. this coming from a Leo fan btw ;)

I saw this movie today and I liked it. Leo did a great job. I think he might a nod. I think Scorsese will probably get the Oscar.

I felt bad for the poor professor when they were going to take the boat/plane into flight. He looked so scared!

I saw this movie this afternoon and of all the Golden Globe dramas that are nominated...

This one is the one to see in my opinion. It is probably going to get the Oscar for best picture and maybe even Leo for Best Actor.

Leo is at the top of his game potraying the many facets of Howard Hughes from dashing movie maker, to innovative aeronautic engineer to crazed eccentric.

The movie is nicely paced and keeps you interested even though it is two hours and fourty five minutes.

It may not do well at the box office... But it's going to be a force to contend with at the Oscars as far as movies as a whole as well individual categories such as director, screenplay, best supporting actor and actress, etc.

The Aviator leads all films at this year's FanForum Movie Awards with a whopping 12 nominations.

Best Picture
Best Director (Martin Scorsese)
Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio)
Best Supporting Actor (Alan Alda)
Best Supporting Actress (Cate Blanchett)
Best Ensemble
Best Screenplay
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound

Best Art Direction
Best Cinematography

It finally comes out here in the Philippines tomorrow. Can't wait!

By the way! *** SPOILERS AHEAD***

There was a part in the movie where Leo's character and Cate. B's character were in a plane and he got up, stood in back of her, and let her ride the plane and my friend and I both looked at eachother and said: "I'm Flying!"

I saw this movie with very few expectations, mostly because I think Scorsese has been overrated in the past and Leo is not my favourite actor by a long shot.

I was pleasantly surprised - it was a decent film. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful, the actors portrayed the characters and the era really well and overall it was a nicely cohesive film.

It is most certainly not the best film of the year, though, and should not win the Oscar, because while individual things about it were nicely done, overall, it just wasn't a fantastic film. Leo was great in some scenes and terribly miscast in others. It required some editing and ran too long. The opening scene was just too reminiscent of Citizen Kane for me, but not in a good way - more creepy than anything. And whereas Citizen Kane at least explored the beginning of Kane's life, this movie did nothing of the sort so some of the decisions made by Howard Hughes later which were driven by his childhood were poorly represented to the audience.

Overall good film, deserves the Oscar nomination, but not the win.

Overall I liked this movie, but I wasn't blown away, and it felt very long to me. I would agree with those that said it lacked a cohesiveness, and even though I really like Scorsese, I don't think he should win an Oscar for this picture. That being said, the individual actors, all of them, were incredibly strong. Leonardo DiCaprio is absolutely amazing and really becomes Howard Hughes. It's obvious that he's taken great consideration (in fact all of the actors have) about the fact that they're portraying real people and should take extra pains to portray them truly. Cate Blanchett was awesome, and this is someone who watches lots of Katharine Hepburn movies, I really liked Cate in the role. She got the accent and tone of Hepburn down. I also really liked Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner, but I just wish there was more of her, because she impressed me, too. Thumbs up to John C. Reilly, Alan Alda, and Alec Baldwin.
What I really liked about the movie was the feeling of the age - from the 20's to the 40's. I didn't think it was an awesome movie, but it was very good and solid.

I really want to see this movie. When Leo was on Oprah they showed one scene from the movie, I forgot which one it was but I remember thinking that Leo was just amazing in the scene. I think he is a wounderful actor and I can't wait to see him in this movie. Hopefully I'll see it soon.

I completely agree with you on that!...however, I didn't love the movie, because some parts of it were a little too bizarre for me to handle. But it's nearly a four-star film! :D
