Really good movie, liked the story of how seriously odd Howard Hughes was able to win the Congressional hearings (amongst other things) to get TWA going.

I just wished there was sequel to tell the second part of the story about the massive billionaire wealth after the success of TWA and then the descent into reclusive style barminess (a bit like Citrizen Kane it might be).

My Uncle let me borrow his dvd of this film and he told me it was absolutely boring and too long. I ended up enjoying it, good film.

I've watched the film twice,very good film,i had thought the same as you at first,thinking they have cut this film off early in his life,and he did reach 71,but the rest can be imagined,and the reclusive part was partly covered in the film,i can't see it being enough to make a second film about.
I think the appeal of the film is the sheer amount of content covered in the film,there is always something happening and although it is a long film it seems to drift by quite quickly,a sequel would look dull in comparison in my view.
How can you make something energetic and full of risk and enthusiasm [which i feel the aviator was] from the remainder of the story?

The growth of TWA in the 50's would be interesting, and it's after that when he became a billionaire that the extreme reclusiveness set in. Possibly Hughes was manic depressive, and in his earlier life had huge amounts of energy and risk-taking, but when he got older the depression took him over and he became just a recluse, doing nothing. But the decline would still be interesting and a challenge for Leonardo DiCaprio (who was excellent in The Aviator, because no matter how barmy he was getting, you always were on his side against the corrupt senator and PanAm, and admired the way he was able to pull himself together to win the Congressional Hearings) to do the full ageing bit. Citizen Kane which was mostly about decline, was still good to watch.
