The Army - Why do soldiers moan so much about their equipment?

Firstly you wanted to join the army? do you see the enemy wearing anything remotely like what you have?
Jaded - Simply don't join the army easy?

Mostly its because the people who design said equipment do it with
out asking the solider, who has to use it,what they would like to have or what would make it better for them, like a "new" tank without any
storage space for their gear! or body armor that has no pockets Ect!

I agree with the answerer's so far.

A soldier has the RIGHT to B***h.
I did when I was in the Army, my buddies B***hed too.

Don't be so aloof !
Jeeze !!

Put it this way Give us the tools and we will do the job, Being the best fighting force bar none ,i am sure leaving it to the soldiers not top brass this war would have been over a long time ago.

Its not just the body armour (that was only recently upgraded to Osprey) or the lack of vital kit. Its the fact that the government has some of this equipment, and they aren't sending it. Take for example the self-propelled artillery the AS90. Troops in afghansistan need this urgently. The government won't send it however until more troops die. They say its so we dont look like we're losing.
No, I don't see the enemy wearing our gear. But then again, the enemy believe that no amount of armour will save them, for it is the Will Of Allah to decide when they die.
So please, keep opinions to yourself until you've been there.

I really hope this is a joke question. Maybe you should join the army and fight in Afghanistan with the sub-standard equipment the heroes already over there have to utilise. Our soldiers are being sent into a war zone with equipment and vehicles that are 15 years out of date for the most part. The British Government is saying that there isn't the money in the budget to spend on on our armed forces while while they spend billions of pounds in foreign aid and fiddle their expenses sheets.

The members of our armed forces are heroes who have to live and work in appalling conditions while being shafted by the representatives of the country they fight for.

Bad equipment puts your life at risk. A soldier quite likes to stay alive for he's mummy. Fuck! the enemy.....If he's life means nothing to him then that's hes affair. A desire to join the army does not mean that you have a desire for an early, and unnecessary death.

i was in the Military for 38 years and all uniforms are purchased and designed by CIVILIANS

and on several occasions I have put in a defect report on new uniforms and called to explain and told you cannot do that

My reply was Watch me result change to Uniform

we ran out of GP boots so the store sent us out to by Boots from a local Safety Equipment Supply result another defect

some idiot approved Steel toe cap Boots

Not for and IED operator Bl***y stupid Civilians or Supply Officers

when in the field we Know what type of uniform we want and for all safety equipment issued should have input on design IE Flack Jackets

IED Bomb Suits it took years for them to be made capable of Fitting Air conditioning

Idiot civilians don't Know How hot those suits are even i temperate climates let alone in the Desert

I worked on Martin Baker Ejection seats and were always making suggestions for Change and Martin Baker took every suggestion on Board some made it to the Seats and some did not

If people don't tell what they think of a product how are the manufacturers going to know if and when there is a problem ?????

and when your servicemans life may depend on it Please complain

That is not exactly the point is it?

The kit they should have depends on the jobs they are asked to do.

Would you like to be told to do a foot patrol in an area swarming with Taliban, and where the enemy have been placing IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices) along the routes they know you take? No proper safety measures were supplied such as enough troops to actually hold the ground or do proper sweeps for explosives.

The Taliban even use the same metal detectors as our lads to make the bombs harder to detect, we don't have enough helecopters for resupplies of equipment to troops in the field or for casevacs (casualty evacuations), armoured vehicles desperately needed have been in storage in the UK and Bahrain instead of where they were needed in Afghanistan, shortages of general kit (clothing, boots etc) have meant soldiers have often had to buy their own kit to fight in, the list goes on.

It is known as the military covenant. The troops agree to do their duty and the government agree to give them the equipment they need to do it as safely as possible.

This has not happened with the Labour government. They have broken the military covenant and caused numerous unnecessary deaths among our service personnel.

Totally unforgiveable.

Every employer has a duty of care to its employee's. Army is just the same, its a professional job therefore the army chiefs should ensure their employee's are kept safe. On site if i get a new hard hat the first thing i do is check the banding, you can't expect marines or soldiers to just accept what they're given. Double and triple check, not happy they should have the right to demand a Replacement. Don't forget the SA-80 had to be redesigned for left handers, they were geting the cartridge ejector in the face. Basic mistakes cost lives. Maybe a minutes complaining can save a lifetime of pain.

Soldiers complain about their equipment because much of it was designed by people who do not have to wear it, and is often the product of various political processes that have nothing to do with producing what is "best" for the soldier.

While it is true that we chose to join the Army, we want the Army to be the best that it possibly can be. Searching for ways to improve is what lets us constantly better ourselves and maintain excellence. Accepting the status quo is what leads to laziness and stagnation.

Tell me, what profession do you work in that does not have room for improvement? Are you seriously telling me that every piece of equipment and every process in your workplace could not be innovated on?
