The Amityville Horror

Ive only seen the original and i loved it - so i will keep my eye open on sky for the remake.

I love a good horror movie, and the fact that its based on fact makes it even better.

I watched this last in the winter months, and i was all alone in the house. I definately got spooked and i remember turning all the lights on in the house as it was dark.

When I was youg I watched the original. I thought it was pretty boring then. I wanted blood, guts , gore (the 80's when films were banned).

However I watched the remake, I liked it and I brought it. it did make me want to see the original again which this time I REALLY enjoyed. Both though similar, but with quite different endings.

I still say that "Amytiville 11, The Possesion" is the best though.
Buy the Italian import to get the full version!

Amityville 2. That is my favorite. Yes you can get it uncut. In all honesty probably only about 3 mins the film cut from what is out there.
It was the prequel to "The Amityville" only made after as usual.
Watch it and you will agree with me I am sure :)

There are about eight Amityville films :) The demon possessed everything from a dolls house to a lamp.
Don't forget these are all movies made in the 80's and 90's. Not a follow on from the remake!

Do people think the remake or original is better? how does it compare with other horror films from the same era/period/time?

i didnt rate it at all! although it really isnt my sort of thing, i havea problem with ryan reynolRAB though... how dare he ruin blade! well i dont blame him i blame the writers and creaters for adding a needless character when wesley snipes akes up the whole screen anyway, his character is too big to have someone else fighting for the screen!

i love blade, the first two are incredible and i love wesley snipes... chris christopherson is good because he allows snipes to take the screen but is vital to the story... king is neither vital and he wont shut up, the point of the blade films (to me) is the silence anti hero not a wise cracking kid who is just annoying

I have to say that I like both versions. It was watching the remake that made me go and watch the original again that I used to think was boring.

I haven't seen Amityville yet but will take a look when I'm feeling brave and my husband is at home!

As for the Blade thing - I loved Ryan ReynolRAB in it but that probably had more to do with the fact he is sooooooo fit.

I saw the remake of this on dvd the other day, it was quite good, there were lots of times I jumped especially at bits were someone would suddenly appear behind someone or they'd suddenly see a reflection in a mirror or I'm sure there was a bit where you saw a reflection in a headboard which really made me jump!

Although nicely filmed, my criticism of the film is that I felt no real suspense built up. They didn't manage to convey a feeling of the house really being haunted or eerie, it was more just shock after shock and was all a little bit too slick. I don't think the two main characters gelled properly either, the woman was very wooden.

I think I saw the original on telly years ago but can't really remember it, I might check it out. I haven't seen any of the other parts though, I sometimes watch film sequels but tend to stop when films go to parts 3, 4, 5, 6 etc.
