It does seem that they are doing their best to help it succeed. I hope that it does. I am still worried that being sandwiched between a Johnny Test re-run at 7:00 PM and an Adventure Time re-run at 8:00 PM doesn?t give it the best support. However, Cartoon Network already has several re-runs scheduled for the first episode alone, so children will have plenty of chances to watch it. I just wonder if the series would be better off on Tuesdays, as I believe it has much more in common with The Looney Tunes Show than any of the shows on Monday. It?s a tried-and-true sitcom, after all, and that?s something that I didn?t quite expect. I still enjoyed it, as I stated in my review, but I can?t help but feel that it will be slightly out-of-place on Monday. I suppose all that I can do is hope that everything works out for the best.
 
So we have a confirmed premiere for May in the UK and a tentative date for Spring according to the Turner Resources PDF. So it could drop anytime between March and June. Not too long of a wait.
 
Definitely looks...interesting.

I'm still a little weary after Foster's, Chowder and Flapjack. All good cartoons, mind you, but I'm a little bit worried the formula of "imaginative premise wasted on a cast of jerks" will end up leaking into both this and Adventure Time.
 
Personally, I think it was a great clip because it really shows off the quality of the animation. All those different styles, blending together so perfectly.

I find it ridiculous that 15 seconds of really awesome animation with a catchy tune tested poorly, and was subsequently ditched. I really don't think it would have hurt the show in any possible way.
 
Well the school setting is mildly bothersome. But I'm so excited about this show that I'm okay with that. This show is looking more and more like it's going to turn out great!
 
That clip was interesting, although a tad confusing, since we didn't know what was going on there. As others have said, the different animation styles went surprisingly well together.

Also, I've noticed that (so far), all of the clips and most of the stills of Gumball that we've been shown have taken place at Gumball's school. I really, really, really hope that the school isn't going to be the shows' main/principal backdrop. The last thing we need is yet another school-centric kidcom, even if this one has the distinction of having beasties and other assorted thingies in it.

Kwesi Boakye will be providing Darwin's voice. I?ve never heard of the kid, but it does prove what one of the writers told me: the series is going to use U.S. talent for the voice work despite being developed in Europe.
 
Regarding that "controversial" image: Yes, the connotation there is obvious, but still, I'm willing to give the show's producers the benefit of the doubt.

Being an amateur writer of comedies myself, I know that there are times when you just can't help falling into predictable formulas. By now most of us have read the character descriptions, and we know what sorts of characters Nicole and Richard are; so a scenario like the one depicted in that pic above is hardly unexpected. Based on what I've seen and read, none of the male Watersons seem terribly responsible, but I'd only consider that a problem if the proceedings just degenerated into the female characters playing straight to the males all the time. As long as Nicole and Anais are allowed their share of zany moments and are likewise given opportunities to goof it up get some time in the spotlight, then I personally won't take issue with the characters falling into the typical 'Perfect Mom/Dopey Dad' dynamic. Formulas are fine if they're done well and are entertaining.

Anyways, thanks for continuing to leak these pics and info, Huntsman. I really wish CN would take a more proactive stance when it comes to promoting this show, but it is what it is. Can't wait to read the interview.
 
I can't wait for this. I've been missing my mixed-media fix since Flapjack went off the air, and this looks like it takes that concept beyond the impossible.
 
I wonder what they intend to do when the kids' voices change? Pendleton Ward has said that he intends Finn to age, but I don't see this show working with older characters...
 
I'd love to discuss the show more; I pop in here whenever I can, but right now there just isn't a lot to discuss. Gumball's creators and producers are being so tight-lipped about the show and so little has been revealed so far that right now we can't do much more than speculate. When producers are this close-mouthed about a project, it usually means that said project is either very good or just not worth the hype. An example of the latter category would be Hero: 108, which received zero promotion by CN and very little info was revealed about it prior to its' debut; in the case of that show, unfortunately, after it premiered it became clear to me why there was so little ballyhoo surrounding Hero: 108. I hope that The Amazing World of Gumball will prove to be the opposite scenario: that it will turn out to be a great show and an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but it would be nice if Cartoon Network were to at long last get that breakthrough show of this era that will become their equivalent to SpongeBob Squarepants and Phineas and Ferb in terms of success and popularity. (When Chowder debuted in 2007 I actually believed that that show would be CN's new cash cow, but sadly this was not the case.)

I do hope that there will be an official announcement soon, along with some tangible information, images, clips and hopefully a set date for a US debut of the series.
 
Well, if the school is truly going to be Gumball's principal setting, then this news lessens my enthusiasm. Quite a bit, in fact. Now I'm worried that this show is just going to be the new Fish Hooks. :crying: It's enough that this is going to be yet another show about an inept boy character, but it's going to largely revolve around the main character's school life also? Bleh.


I'm still going to give this show a chance, but this latest tidbit of news is not music to my ears. I'm so tired of school-centric kidcoms that I don't know what to do. I was hoping that Gumball would do something different. This news does not make me happy. I'm really hoping that this show will be more than just Saved By the Bell with a cast of oddities.
 
It would seem that there are only 36 episodes in the first season. Ben Locket and Neil Myers said as much, and they composed the music, and the show's entry page at the Annecy Awards confirms that there are only 36 episodes in the first season. That's unfortunate, but it still gives us eighteen half-hours worth of episodes. I figure Cartoon Network will probably air nine of those episodes in the spring and air the other nine in the fall, unless they decide to split up the premieres like they did with Chowder and Flapjack.

The second season will have 40 episodes, as was confirmed in a recent press release.
