The Amazing World Of Gumball – News & Discussion Thread

The girl rabbit reminds me of Panini (sp?) and the two neighbor people remind me of K'Nuckles.

Anyways, it looks like a show for younger kids (despite the fact it said ages 6-11).

This show looks incredible. It's like the melting pot of multiple animation styles, all put together beautifully, and adds extra touches that smooth it out.
I'm definitely going to add this to my "Must watch" List, and since the promos so far really intrigue me, it will probably stay on that list forever.
I wonder how long a show like this takes to make.

Mind you, I'm saying this without the benefit of having seen any clips featuring the parents, but I'm not getting the vibe that Gumball's dad Richard is going to be a jerk character; judging by those character descriptions, it would seem that those neighbor characters, the Robinsons are the ones set to fill the show's jerk quotient. They kind of remind me of the Bigheads from Rocko's Modern Life, only they're both jerks.

As for the dad, the impression I'm getting from him (again, I haven't seen any actual clips of him in action) is that Richard would seem to be a lovable teddy bear sort of guy, like a John Candy character. So I'm not all too worried about his character being negative. This however:

...is a genuine concern of mine. I too really hope that the mother's being the working parent doesn't mean that she'll be the least seen member of the family. True, the parents' roles here are reversed as is the case on Johnny Test, and in the case of the latter show the mom doesn't appear as frequently as the other family members, but to Test's credit, the writers did a better job of getting the mom on camera after season 1. There were several instances where Johnny's mother could have or should have appeared, but didn't, however overall JT didn't do an entirely terrible job with the frequency of the mother's appearances. Out of Jimmy's Head did a far, far worse job with their mother character, who appeared so infrequently that she wasn't even considered a regular cast member. I'm really hoping that Gumball's mom Nicole (I don't know if that's really her name, but I'm going to call her that since no other name has been provided so far) will be an active and fun character who's seen as much as the father as opposed to her chief shtick being that she's never home. The pics I saw seem to suggest that the crew actually has plans to do things with the mother, so hopefully she won't be left out of the fun.

She seemed like a sweet girl in the karate clip; despite the fact that Gumball was behaving like a fool, throwing punches in her face, she said that she was happy seeing him be happy. Based on her description on the website, she loves him as much as he loves her, so I don't think she's going to be a "Margaret" type of character.

I don't see how it's confusing. Cartoon Network UK decided to go with something different than Cartoon Network US. It's as simple as that.

I was about to ask about the UA Gumball Promotion since I only saw one for Generator Rex, then I read about the DirecTV stuff. Figures, my satellite provider would rather want to promote itself when I'm already subscribed to it than a show that hasn't even premiered yet.

Cartoon Network has been running new clips for the series all day in-between commercials, like they did for The Looney Tunes Show. I've only just noticed, but I'll probably stay tuned on the network for the rest of the day. I've only seen two.

1) Gumball is in a janitor's cart and is taunting bad luck, which prompts a series of ridiculously unfortunate accidents to unfold around him. He narrowly avoids everything and taunts bad luck again, only to hit his head on a sign. He then looks ahead and notices that the bridge is out, decides and try to jump it, but falls short.

2) Gumball is in the shower so his family is lined up outside of the door. Richard wants to go to Daisy Land, but Nicole says that they can’t afford it and tickets don’t just fall from the sky. Darwin mentions that if you put your mind to something, anything is possible, so both he and Richard attempt to concentrate and make said tickets fall from the sky. The scene changes to Gumball signging in the shower about how it will be a good day, but he then slips and falls down the toilet.

EDIT

3) Gumball is dreading being kissed by "Granny JoJo", so Darwin tells him that he should try to find his happy place. Gumball tells Darwin that he doesn't have one, so Darwin shows him his: everywhere. The two step outside and the world is more trippy than usual, with everybody being sugary sweet and happy, but Gumball still worries about being kissed. A squirrel tries to console Gumball, but he shouts at it.

If people see any others, post them in this thread. I will keep this list updated throughout the day.

That may work, but what will happen when Mystery Inc returns? (and it should return fast, cause CN is just rerunnign the same 13 eps)

I was for quite awhile under the impression that the sneak peek was going to be on May 2nd, after the Adventure Time season 2 finale. I think that the Gumball sneak peak could've gotten a huge audience riding off the AT season finale, but it looks like it'll have to ride off the aftermath of The Looney Tunes Show. Which show do you think Gumball would have a bigger audience: after the AT season finale, or after the TLTS premiere? Not that I'm saying that a lot of people probably don't like what they see of Gumball, I'm just wondering if the earlier show could convince more viewers to stick around and watch the sneak peek and want to tune into the official premiere if they like what they see.

What makes you say that? I suppose there are some things in the picture that are more commonly associated with younger shows, such as how the mailbox and the sun are happy, but I think that?s just supposed to add to the show?s surrealism. I mean, any show with a tyrannosaurus rex, a banana and a cheerleading peanut as supporting characters is going to be surreal.

FishHooks had a lot of potential, but it didn't quite live up to that potential. Regardless, one of the producers for Turner Broadcasting in the UK just tweeted this. High praise.

I am hoping that, since she is excited about launching it, it means that it will actually be launched soon. At this point, I wouldn't mind if the UK gets the show first, as at least then we could start getting some actual information...

Adventure Time's ratings have been in decline. The Looney Tunes Show has been hyped for nearly a month, with advertisements in Times Square, on trains, and just about everywhere else. I'm pretty sure it's better served airing its sneak peek immediately following The Looney Tunes Show.

hmm.. Maybe On Tuseday (Witch i Hope Cartoon Network dose'nt Plan On Doing To Show) But If Not They Well Probably Well Do 13 Episodes Of Scooby Doo Mystery Inc And 13 Episodes Of The Looney Tunes Show

The official facebook page has launched; there should be more official stuff like this in the future, on YouTube or Twitter. They also provide a link to the official website, www.theamazingworldofgumball.com, but it's not up yet. It should be up by Monday, although I'm not sure if there will be geoblocks in place to prevent those of us in the states from watching any new videos they may upload. However, the website will be free of the design restrictions of the US website, so hopefully it will have some more information about the show.

Ben Bocquelet was kind enough to answer some questions of mine. We'll have that interview up sometime next week. I really enjoyed it and I hope that everyone will enjoy it as well.

Sorry, but I'm not watching CN today (sans the final hour till [as]) I'm not the type of person that wants to see the same 5-6 Scooby-Doo movies reran to death, followed by a mediocre live-action movie.

I will however, try to look out for them during the Mystery Incorporated/The Looney Tunes Show hour. Of which I can tolerate, plus. It means I get to listen to that absurd "Gwilled Chweese"

I watched Cartoon Network the rest of the day yesterday, but they stopped showing those clips shortly after I posted. I only saw three, but it's possible I missed a few earlier in the day. I haven't seen any on Cartoon Network today, but the network does have a countdown clock for the series. Animation Magazine also has an article up about the series; it has some more information, including some new comments by Ben Bocquelet and Mic Graves.

Guys are dumb and lazy, especially fathers. Girls are really smart and hard working, especially sisters and mothers.

Yay, originality

This post brought to you by Cynicism?

But, yeah. I still like what I've seen of the actual show, but I've seen only what's on Youtube. I love the art and animation so much - I'd hate to see it ruined by the typical cartoon family fomula.

It heads up another night of comedy OR like Batman on Friday it takes up 6:30PM for premieres. I honestly think that's why Looney Tunes was set for 7PM but that could always change.

Interview you say? Hmm, should be an interesting read and should give this series a bit more exposure on the creative process of Gumball. I look forward to reading it.
