Had to swap browsers to view that website (Opera has some issues websites made like that), but I like what I saw. The Watterson's definitely look like a fun bunch, even work-aholic Nicole. Maybe her attitude to winning will have her involved in any episode that involves a competition of sorts. I was also hoping for little character bios of Gumball's classmates, but ah well. Looking forward to this show even more now.
 
In the UK, two episodes are going to air per week. I'm not sure if that will be the case for the US, however. It seems Cartoon Network prefers to air episodes in fifteen minute increments; if anything, I could see them treating it like Adventure Time, airing two episodes per week until they have enough for re-runs, and then changing it to one episode per week. It also depends on what timeslot it gets. I suspect this will be the case. In the articles, they mentioned that it takes nearly two years for a season to be completed, so I doubt Cartoon Network would want to burn through the episodes too quickly.

I saw this post in the caf? and wanted to reply to it. While The Amazing World Of Gumball wasn?t announced at the upfront, Cartoon Network U.S. did register five trademarks for it a few days later. That?s usually a good sign.

I am probably more optimistic about this series than most people, but there is one area that concerns me: James Lamont and Jon Foster, the series? primary writers, don?t seem to have any experience writing for animated programs - or even children?s programs.

I?m sure they must have been hired for a reason, but I?m still somewhat concerned. Back when I found those character descriptions, there were some sample lines of dialogue as well. I wasn?t too impressed so I didn?t post them; I shrugged them off as early lines simply taken to allow the cast to audition, but it?s been gnawing at the back of my head ever since. I probably should have posted them, as I no longer have access to them, but it is what it is.
 
Urgh. That doesn't bode well. I get that CN by all appearances has a bona fide hit on their hands and as such they want to give it mass exposure, but weekday airings after only 3 episodes? Come on, CN, don't play the hits 'til they start hitting back. I get that CN is proud, but Kool's right: this is overkill.

But anyway, thanks for the pics, Huntsman. I had seen all of those characters in 1 of the early screen caps for the show, but I didn't realize that each and every one of those characters had a name an personality attached to them. Now that's commitment.

Well, Ben Bocquelet said in the interview that he named the other family members after his own family. I suppose he could have named Gumball after himself, but I don?t believe ?The Amazing World Of Ben? has quite the same ring to it. I don?t mind Gumball having an unusual name, although I wouldn?t mind an in-show explanation sometime down the road. Darwin?s name is an exception to all of that because it?s an obvious reference, considering he?s a fish with legs.

Regardless, Cartoon Network now has the game up on the website, and while the character pages aren?t yet up, clips have been uploaded for both Nicole and Richard. I really love Nicole?s anger issues; I know one of the clips shows that she can be a loving mother, and another shows that she can be a loving wife, but her ?flip-outs? are absolutely delightful. Based on what I?ve seen, there is much more of that to come, and I?m going to enjoy every minute of it. Richard is also a fun character, but as I said in my review, I hope his antics aren?t overdone. He is a much better character in small, but concerted doses.
 
Huntsman, I appreciate how you've been keeping close track of this. There's hardly anything to talk about, but I always click on this thread whenever you post an update.

Looking at the screenshots, Gumball doesn't seem poised to break the trippy mold at all. That's not so bad, though, because the art style and design aesthetic is very charming. It's very much an European reincarnation of Chowder. What Gumball needs to prove is that it won't be a clone of Chowder in the wrong places; i.e. bad writing, repetitive humor and insincere characterizations.
 
Honestly, how many of you even watch Cartoon Network at 7:30 in the morning? I doubt even most children are watching television at that time, as it’s pretty late and they’re either getting ready for school or have already left; children younger than school-age would still be asleep. However, if they believe that Gumball gives them the best chance to get a bump in the ratings at the last minute before the last of the children go to school, then more power to them. Cartoon Network has always wanted a Phineas & Ferb or SpongeBob SquarePants, a show that could pull in tremendous ratings no matter how many times children have watched them. Perhaps it’s not the best strategy to test Gumball after only three episodes, but I don’t believe there is any intrinsic harm in trying it.

By the time summer break begins, and kids who wake up early can have the ability to watch it without being rushed, they’ll have five-or-six episodes for the rotation.
 
I already like Nicole. I really like how she is a motherly character, but deep down if you mess with her or anyone she loves she'll be like one of those animals you see on Animal Planet that will kill you if you bring harm to her children.

Richard, he's OK for now. I thought that moment of him at the check-out lane was hilarious. Only time will tell if I like him or not.
 
I don't know, Huntsman. Bad audition lines aside, I think it opens up something of a wild card opportunity. One of my favorite quotes from that old series "My Favorite Martian" was something to the effect of "An amateur is always more dangerous than a professional, because an amateur doesn't know their own limits! If Alexander Graham Bell had been a professional electrician, he would never have invented the telephone; he would have known it was impossible!"

Take that as you will.
 
In the wake of CN's recent comedies, I was concerned that Gumball was going to be just another 'dude-bro' show along the lines of Adventure Time and Regular Show. Judging by the above pics, that would appear to not be the case, at least not in the sense of it being 'dude-centric'. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the 'dude-bro' comedies (I don't watch AT anymore, but that's neither her nor there), but those shouldn't be the only kinds of comedies that CN shows. I can't wait to see that opening sequence in motion. And I'll co-sign Huntsman's hope that the mother character will be a 'fun' character. I like cartoon moms in general, but too often they get shafted when it comes to the laughs. It would be nice to a mother character break that mold, and I love Gumball's mum's pose in that second pic.

It would seem that Gumball is skewing toward a younger audience than say, Regular Show, and that's not a bad thing. Again, variety is the spice of life.
 
Yeah, I check this thread every time there's a new post but never post myself. This looks really original and creative (but I'm one of the people who does like the trippy comedies CN is making now so maybe that has something to do with it). This looks really interesting and the combination of art styles looks really really nice. I'm really excited.
