The Chauncey Gardiner-like rise of Gary has been the highlight of the series, whether or not he did win. He's humble enough to know he's probably not as objectively good as a Pat or an Olav, but hardly anyone is, so just being willing to look foolish to risk taking them on is quite brave in itself.
