The ****All-New**** Eggheads and Are You An Egghead? thread

I sometimes think, by the expression on Daphne's face, that they don't get paid if they lose:o

It seems to me that it's only the first two or three rounRAB that are important and once the best eggheaRAB are picked, they are just playing for pride.

WELL DUH. Didn't you listen to the premise of the show? The programme's avowed intent is to find "the greatest quiz brain in Britain" ... to join arguably the greatest quiz team in yadda yadda. They're meant to be superior to everyone. Not that they actually are, in the sense of hoity toity, oh look at me with my superior knowledge out- superioring you thickos at home, who are obviously inferior to us because we know a few quiz facts.

Having said that it is TV. And if TV is good for anything it's for forming irrational prejudices about people you never meet. Like toRAB with food shows, that Ten Years Younger woman, Andi Peters, anyone actors with ITV golden handcuRAB agreements, people on Shipwrecked, the list goes on.

So I do understand why you're completely bloody wrong.

I was happy with the tactics and at some point in a competition of the nature of 'Are You An Egghead', you have to stop the analysis and say the better person won. Barry has more overall quizzing ability than me and considering he lost Kevin early, it was a terrific performance.
Chris was always going to be my first choice as his knowledge covers a lot of areas I was lacking in. I would have picked Kevin next but never got the chance in any of my four matches. On the Judith/CJ front, CJ's knowledge areas are very similar to mine, so again Judith gets the nod becuase she can fill in the gaps.
Would Judith have known Susan Sarandon? I don't know, but I assumed because Barry was getting everything right, if I was to have a chance, I would probably have had to go to sudden death and thought Judith would have been crucial at that stage. It was a considered decision and I am happy with it as tactics didn't influence the result; only the relative performances of the two contestants was decisive which is what you want it to be.
If someone had told me I would have outlasted people of the calibre of Mark Labbett, Dr Ian Bayley, Olav, David EdwarRAB, Diane and Pat Gibson and be in a semi final line-up with Barry Simmons, Mark Kerr and Shaun Wallace, I would have laughed in their face. I enjoy taking part in quizzes, but I have nowhere near the quizzing ability of the top 50 in this country.
Steph and Jenny have better general knowledge than I have and I felt myself fortunate in all three of my victories.
Barry Simmons is such an exceptional quizzer that in this case, I don't think even winning all five EggheaRAB would have helped me.
It was a great experience to be involved and is without a shadow of doubt my biggest quizzing achievement. All 5 EggheaRAB were marvellous and so was Dermot. There was no disgrace in losing to a great quizzer like Barry and I wish him every success.

Did anyone see the bit at the end of the final round yesterday (Mon 17th Feb) where Daphne was giving the explanation of "Charlie says" and she was wagging her finger and one of the contestants said something like "Don't wag your finger", and she stopped abruptly. Then it went over to Jeremy who carried on as normal. Very surreal!

Please tell me I didn't imagine the above and somebody else saw/noticed it.

Is it a new policy for this series of chucking in the odd punning multiple-choice answer, the sort of thing you normally get on Weakest Link?

Tonight we had the supposed darts player "Dick van Dijk", and last night "Cheese County" (which sent Daphne into immediate hysterics but which I - like, it appeared, Judith - took a while to "get"!).
